Add content to Pages

Add Content, Photos, Files, Buttons, Links, News, Events, Videos and more in the Edlio page editor.

Once you've created a page, you build it up by adding page blocks. Inside any layout zone, click + Add to open the Add Page Block modal and pick a block type. This guide covers the ten block types and how to use each one.

The ten block types

The Add Page Block modal offers ten options at the page level (within any layout zone except the Hero):

  1. Content — text and rich content

  2. Photos — image gallery

  3. Files — downloadable documents

  4. Supply Lists — classroom supply lists for parents

  5. Buttons — call-to-action buttons

  6. Links — list of grouped links

  7. News — news/announcement feed

  8. Events — event listing

  9. Staff — staff directory display

  10. Staff Block — alternate staff display

Hero zone is different. When you click + Add inside the Hero Page section at the top of a page, the modal offers a smaller set: Content, Photos, Section Menu, Buttons, Links. Files, Supply Lists, News, Events, Staff, and Staff Block are not available in the Hero zone. See Hero layouts for how to use the Hero zone.

The Layout dropdown (Layout ▾) at the top-right of the editor lets you change the page's layout while editing. See Page layout for the layout templates.

Content

content text box

The text-and-rich-content block — your go-to for paragraphs, headings, lists, links, embedded media, and tables. Most of your page is probably Content blocks.

What you can put inside:

  • Text paragraphs and headings

  • Bulleted and numbered lists

  • Links to other pages or external websites

  • Tables for organized information

  • Inline images and videos

  • Embedded content from other platforms

How to use:

  1. Click + Add, then click the Content tile.

  2. Type or paste your text directly into the editor.

  3. Highlight text first, then use the formatting toolbar to apply styles, create lists, or turn text into a link.

Always highlight text before applying formatting or links — otherwise the formatting won't have a target.

Photos

photo block settings

A gallery block for one or many photos. Ideal for school events, campus facilities, student achievements, or any visual content.

How to add photos:

  1. Click + Add, then click the Photos tile.

  2. Drag and drop images into the dotted outline, or click Upload to select files from your computer.

  3. Reorder by dragging photos to new positions.

  4. Click an individual image to add a caption.

  5. Click Alt on an image to add alt text — this is what screen readers announce, so it matters for accessibility.

Display options — click the gear icon on the photo block:

  • Rotate — cycles through images automatically

  • Stacked — displays images in a column

  • Constrained — fits images to the column width

  • Full — extends images across the full page width

Files

How to add files:

  1. Click + Add, then click the Files tile.

  2. Drag and drop your files into the dotted area, or click Upload to browse your computer.

  3. Click a file name to change how it's displayed.

  4. Use the 6-dot drag handle to reorder files.

  5. Click the three-dot menu next to any file to rename, delete, or adjust its settings.

Whenever possible, we recommend creating pages on your website for content. It's always better to create a new page for the PDF content rather than linking to a PDF. Edlio Pages have built-in code to make that content accessible. Read more about PDF accessibility [https://knowledge.edlio.com/en/articles/9705091-pdf-accessibility].

Supply Lists

A classroom supply list for parents and students in partnership with TeacherLists. Useful at the start of the school year for teachers and administrators to publish required materials, allowing parents to do school supplying shopping in two clicks.

Buttons

A row of one or more call-to-action buttons. Useful for prominent links — enrollment applications, event registration, emergency information, donate links.

Each button has its own label and target URL (internal page or external site).

Links

A list-style block for grouped links. Links can be presented as a vertical list or as visual buttons. Different from a Buttons block in that once a link topic is created, it can be used across multiple pages, such as "see also" sections or grouped reference links, allowing you to create and use a reusable link menu. Adding a links topic once following the steps below and add across any and all relevant pages.

See Add link blocks for the detailed walkthrough.

News

A news/announcement feed pulled from your site's News collection. Embed recent news directly on a page so visitors don't have to navigate to the News section separately.

See Add news block for the detailed walkthrough.

Events

An event listing block — pulls upcoming events from your site's calendar so they appear directly on the page.

See Add event blocks for the detailed walkthrough.

Staff

A staff directory display — shows faculty and staff with photos, contact info, and role descriptions. Pulls from the site's Staff Directory.

Staff Block

An alternate staff display block.

See Add staff block for the detailed walkthrough on staff display blocks.

Saving your work

The page editor footer has two buttons:

  • Save Draft (filled blue, primary) — saves your changes without publishing. The page is not visible to site visitors yet.

  • Publish (outlined blue, secondary) — makes the page live on your school website.

You can move between Save Draft and Publish freely. Edits to a published page can also be saved as a draft and published when ready.

Best practices

  • Accessibility — always add alt text to images, use clear descriptive headings, and keep links visually distinct from regular text.

  • Stay organized — use consistent formatting and a logical content flow so visitors can scan and find what they need.

  • Update regularly — fresh content keeps your school community engaged.
