Updated over 4 months ago

Overview

The Edlio CMS provides different access levels to help you manage responsibilities and focus users on their specific website areas. This article explains the various user account types and their capabilities.

User Account Levels

1. Admin-Level Accounts

Super Administrators

  • Available on websites purchased from August 2023 onwards

  • Can add, remove, and edit both super administrator and website administrator accounts

  • Have the same website privileges as website administrators

  • Should be limited to your most trusted team members

Legacy Admin Account

  • For websites purchased before August 2023

  • Identified by the username "admin"

  • The only account that can manage website administrators

  • Otherwise has the same privileges as website administrators

  • Best used only when you need to manage website administrators

2. Website Administrators

  • Trusted individuals who help manage the entire website and update regular user accounts

  • To designate someone as a website administrator:

    • Log in with the super admin account

    • Check the "Website Administrators" box in their profile

3. Standard User Accounts

  • Default account type for new users

  • Limited to managing their assigned areas (pages, photos, videos, calendar)

  • Can be granted access to specific categories, features, and password-protected areas

4. Minimal Access User Accounts

  • Cannot access the admin site

  • Unable to create or edit content

  • Can still appear in the staff directory

  • Can access password-protected areas if authorized

  • Update passwords regularly

  • Limit super administrators to 1-2 people

  • Only use the "admin" account when managing website administrators

  • Never share the admin account

  • Limit website administrators to 3-5 people

  • Delegate site sections appropriately (department chairs, club advisors, coaches, etc.)
