If You’re Using Your Own Car

Before driving:

  • You must have business use insurance (minimum Class 1).

  • Your MOT must be valid.

  • Your driving licence must be current.

  • Documents must already be on file.

If your insurance renews – send updated documents immediately.

If You’re Using the Client’s Car

Before driving:

  • You must be named on their insurance.

  • The vehicle must be insured and MOT’d.

  • Approval must be confirmed by the office.

Never assume you are covered.

Before Every Journey

Check:

  • Client is safely seated.

  • Seatbelt is secure.

  • Mobility aids are stored safely.

  • You are not fatigued.

  • You have enough fuel.

What to do if…

You have an accident

Ensure safety first. Call emergency services if needed. Inform the office immediately.

The client becomes unwell during travel

Stop safely. Call 999 if required. Inform the office.

Insurance documents are missing

Do not drive. Contact the office.

The family asks you to drive “just this once”

Politely decline and explain it must be authorised.

You receive a parking fine

Inform the office immediately. Do not use client funds to pay it.

Remember

  • No documentation = no driving.

  • Safety comes before convenience.

  • Escalate concerns immediately.

  • You are not expected to take risks.
