Supervision and Appraisal

Written by Orianne Collins

At edyn.care, supervision and appraisals are designed to support you in your role, help you develop professionally and ensure you feel confident delivering safe, person-centred care.

These conversations are supportive and developmental. They are an opportunity to reflect on your work, discuss any challenges, celebrate successes and identify any training or support you may need.

Supervision

You will have a formal supervision every 6 months, alongside regular contact with the Care Management Team throughout your placements.

Supervision is an opportunity to discuss topics such as:

  • Your wellbeing and how you're feeling in your role.

  • Your current placements.

  • Any challenges you've experienced.

  • Positive feedback and achievements.

  • Training and development needs.

  • Your confidence supporting different care needs.

  • Safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act and key policies.

  • Any suggestions you have for improving our service.

We encourage you to be open and honest so we can provide the right support.

Annual Appraisal

Once a year, you'll have an appraisal to reflect on your experience over the previous 12 months.

Together, we'll discuss:

  • Your achievements and proudest moments.

  • What you enjoy most about your role.

  • Any challenges you've faced.

  • Your strengths and areas you'd like to develop.

  • Future career goals.

  • Any additional training or support that would help you.

This is your opportunity to look ahead and shape your ongoing development with edyn.care.

Support and Feedback Meetings

If concerns are raised about your practice, we may invite you to a Support and Feedback Meeting.

These meetings are separate from supervision and appraisals and are designed to:

  • Discuss concerns fairly and openly.

  • Give you the opportunity to explain your perspective.

  • Identify any additional support or training you may need.

  • Agree actions to help you succeed in your role.

Where necessary, placements may be paused while concerns are reviewed. This is a neutral measure and does not mean disciplinary action has been taken.

Remember

  • Supervision and appraisals are there to support your development, not to catch you out.

  • Be open and honest during discussions so we can support you effectively.

  • If you need support between scheduled meetings, contact the Care Management Team at any time.

  • Your feedback is important and helps us improve the support we provide to all carers.
