How to define Folders rules

Define rules to automatically add the right pages to a Folder

We've all made a bookmarks folder or a Notion or Confluence workspace or the like, but struggled to keep that up to date. This is where folder rules come in. You no longer have to "remember" to add a page, and things can automatically be updated.

You can set up rules so pages automatically get added to a folder as you work. To configure a rule, open the folder, click on Add pages and head to Automatically:

From here, you can configure exactly which kind of pages you want to automatically add to a folder.

Note that these rules only apply to you and if your teammates join the Folder, they can define their own rules.

When a page gets automatically added, you'll see this banner and you can always undo that:

1. You can set conditions based on titles or URLs

You can choose to set the rule based on the Title or the URL of the page. For instance, here we've configured a simple rule based on the title:

For Title, you have contains, does not contain, starts with, and ends with as options to set. They behave as you'd expect them to.

For URL, you have the same options, but there's also matches and does not match. matches and does not match accept eesel app rules and are what you can use if you want lots of control in defining the URL patterns to match. Read more on eesel app rules here.

2. You can have multiple rules

You can add multiple rules by clicking Add rules at the bottom of the list of rules. You can choose to join these rules as OR (only one of the rules must match for the page to be added) or AND (all the rules must match for the page to be added) by clicking on the first AND or OR:

3. You can nest rules🪆

Simply click + in the right of a rule, to nest another rule inside it.

For example, the rules below will pick pages where the title contains issue AND the URL does not contain github, OR pick pages where the title contains discussion:

If you have any questions on this or anything else, feel free to reach out from the chat in the bottom right of your eesel 😊
