In this article, we'll take a closer look at how you can setup and manage your learning based objectives that focused on discovery
Learning Based Objective
Learning Based Outcomes is not a concept associated with OKRs as it's not a clearly measurable goal. Learning based outcomes aren't focused on reaching a certain metric but on exploring and discovering new approaches to solving some of your pressing matters. When using exploratory objectives, you need to keep in mind that it's focused on:
Non-measurable outcomes,
Insights gained throughout the course of the objective's cycle
Supporting activities added to gain learnings
Recommendations you've captured at the end of the cycle
Objective Supporting Activities
Seeing that Exploratory Objectives don't have targets, all the action will happen on the main objective. This will include:
Adding supporting activities
Tracking your learnings & insights
Documenting your final recommendations
Adding Supporting Activities
Similar to metric based outcome objectives, you can also add supporting activities to your exploratory objectives. These supporting activities do not represent sure success or progress towards your final goal but rather to support you in getting there.
Document Your Insights Continually
As your Exploratory Objective is running, it's recommended to capture insights continually. This way you will be able to reference all the learnings you've made along the way. In turn, these learnings could become new research pieces, ideas or even experiments.
List Recommendations Based on Findings
Once your Exploratory Objective reaches its end date, you can complete the objective which will open a finalise process similar to experiments. Here you will be able to capture your individual insights and set the overall outcome of your objective.
