Read on to learn how you can manage chats in the web version and the app.

Updated over a month ago

In Eitje you can send a message to a team member, a preset team or a group you created yourself. You can do this in the web version and in the app.

If you only select multiple team members for a chat, then it automatically becomes a group chat, if you select just one team member, then it is a one-on-one chat:

  • One-on-one chat: This is a conversation with an individual team member.
➡️ Example: You want to ask a team member a question about a shift.

  • Team chat: When creating a team you can choose to activate a chat group for the team. You can only add team members to the chat if you also add them to the team. Read here how to do that. As long as the team member is part of the team, it cannot be removed from the chat.
➡️ Example: You want to ask a question about the new menu to the kitchen team.

  • Group chat: You can select yourself who can participate in the chat.
➡️ Example: You have a quick announcement for the shift leaders of the teams.

Create a group chat in the web version

  1. Navigate to 'Communication' at the top of the page.

  2. Select 'Chat page'.

  3. Click on 'New chat' in the upper right corner:

    1. For a 1-on-1 chat: select the team member you want to chat with.

    2. For a group chat: first choose the name for the group, then the team members you want to add to the chat, and (if wanted) a profile picture. Ready? Click on 'Save' and the group chat is created.

    3. For a team chat: you can find all activate team chats in the left panel. Is your team not listed? Make sure that the team chat is activated. You can do so by first clicking on 'New chat' > 'Team chat', and then on 'Team settings'. Check if the toggle Chat active is activated.

Create a group chat in the mobile app

  1. At the bottom of the screen, click the tab 'Messages'.

  2. Click the + at the bottom right and select one team member for a one-on-one chat or multiple team members for a group chat.

  3. If you created a group chat, enter a group name and choose an avatar or upload your own photo.

  4. Click 'Continue'.

Send messages

After you've created the chat, you can start sending messages. There are several options:

  • Sending a text message: write your own text in the typing window. Simply send your message by pressing Enter on your keyboard or using the paper airplane next to the typing window.

  • Sharing files: you can also choose to share files. For example, a picture, PDF or Excel file. To do this, press the paperclip to the left of the typing window.

  • Respond to a message: you can respond to a earlier sent message. You do so by clicking on the three little dots next to the message, and then on 'Reply'. You can also do this for your own messages.

  • Responding with an emoticon: you can also respond to a message by sending an emoticon. You do this by clicking on the smiley next to the message.

  • Modifing a message: made a mistake? No problem. You can always edit your own messages. You can do so by clicking on the three dots next to the message and then on 'Edit message'. In the chat, the text 'edited' will appear under the message.

  • Mark a message as unread: you have opened a chat, but have not yet read the message properly. You can mark the message as unread. That way, you won't forget to read it later on.

  • Deleting a message: if you want to delete a message completely, you can press the three dots next to the message, and then choose 'Delete'. You can only do this for your own messages.

  • Search for messages: want to search for a specific message? Easily find your message by using the right search terms.

Manage or delete chats

  • Group chat: you can manage an existing group chat if you are admin in the venue in which the group chat is created, or if you created the group chat yourself. You can manage a group chat by clicking 'Manage chat' at the top of the chat. You can perform the following actions:

    • Edit the group name

    • Edit the profile picture

    • Remove team members from or add them to the group chat

    • Delete the group chat

  • Team chat: you can manage a team chat only from the team's settings, and only if you are admin or manager for that team's venue. For example, do you want to add team members to a team-chat? Then this can only be done by adding team members to the actual team. To do so, click 'Manage team' at the top of the chat. Do you want the team chat to no longer be visible? Then you can deactivate it by turning off the 'Chat active' toggle.

⚠️ Please note that once you deactivate the team chat, all messages in the chat disappear. When you activate the chat again, you will not see previous messages.

  • 1-on-1 chat: within the 1-on-1 chat, you can easily navigate to the profile of your chat partner. You do this by clicking on 'Profile' at the top of the chat. You cannot delete a 1-to-1 chat.
