Setting up Plug & Charge on your Ford

Ford Plug and Charge set-up

Plug & Charge lets you start a charging session just by plugging in - no app tapping, no card waving. Your vehicle and the charger authenticate each other automatically; you do not need to manually verify your identity or payment method.

We recommend reading Ford’s Plug & Charge FAQs in conjunction with this article, which can be found here.

Which Ford vehicles support Plug & Charge?

Plug & Charge works with nearly all Ford Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), the only exception being the 2019 Ford Fiesta. Otherwise, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) don't support Plug & Charge.

Before you start

The easiest way to set up Plug & Charge is by linking your Ford Pass account to your Electroverse account. We have a support article that can help you link accounts here.

You can still set up Plug & Charge if you’ve not linked your Ford Pass account yet, but we recommend linking accounts first as it’ll make the process easier.

How to set it up

  1. In the Electroverse app, go to Profile > Linked Accounts.

  2. If you haven't linked your Ford Pass account yet, do that first. Otherwise, skip to step 3.

  3. Tap the + button next to the vehicle for which you’d like to enable Plug & Charge.

  4. Check that your certificate has been installed. Ford has a support article that can help you check here.

Once the toggle is on, you're good to go. The next time you plug into a compatible charger, the session will start automatically.

Setting up Plug & Charge without linking your Ford Pass account

If you’d like to set up Plug & Charge without linking your Ford Pass account, you can do so by following the steps below:

  1. In the Electroverse app, go to Profile > Plug & Charge.

  2. If you already have an EV added to your account, skip to step 3. If you haven’t added an EV, follow the screens to specify the make and model of the EV for which you’d like to enable Plug & Charge.

  3. You will need to create a Plug & Charge contract. You should be able to set this up by clicking Manual creation and following the app screens. You’ll need your VIN on hand. Ford has a support article here which can help you find it.

    1. Sometimes the VIN is referred to as the ‘Provisioning Certificate ID’ (PCID), so look out for that.

  4. Check that your certificate has been installed. Ford has a support article that can help you check here.

Troubleshooting

The Plug & Charge toggle is not toggleable, even after creation. There are a few reasons this might be happening:

  • Your certificate may not have been installed correctly. Try removing the vehicle and adding it in the Electroverse app first, then reset your vehicle.

  • Your vehicle is currently plugged in. You cannot change settings while a charging cable is connected.

  • You do not have enough cellular connection to receive the update. Try moving to an area with better coverage.

If it keeps failing, contact us via the chat button below.

I plugged in, but the session didn't start automatically. The charger may not support Plug & Charge. Use the Electroverse app or card to start the session manually.

I keep getting an error message when I try to create a Plug & Charge certificate. There are a few things you can check to ensure your certificate creation is not being rejected:

  • Your vehicle must already be registered with the Ford Pass account. This is required even if you choose to enable Plug & Charge without linking your Ford Pass and Electroverse accounts.

  • Ensure your vehicle’s Customer Connectivity Settings are turned on.

  • Ensure that your vehicle is parked in an area with a strong cellular signal.

If issues persist, feel free to contact our customer support team either in the Electroverse app (visit Profile > Support > Help centre > Messages) or via email at hello@electroverse.com.
