Policies are comprehensive documents that provide the full picture. They include detailed procedures, rationale, regulatory context, exceptions, and supporting information. While thorough, policies can be challenging to navigate during time-sensitive clinical situations when staff need immediate, actionable guidance.
Short-format reference materials (aka Job Aids) are designed for point-of-care use. They're scannable, focused, and action-oriented—giving clinicians exactly what they need to know in the moment without unnecessary detail.
Best Practice Approach
Many of our customers have found success by creating a two-tiered system:
Develop short-format derivatives of comprehensive policies that distill the essential steps and key decision points
Include a direct link to the full policy within the Elemeno Resource, allowing users to access additional context when time permits or questions arise.
Working with Your Policy Management System
When creating resources that reference policies, provide Elemeno with durable links to your policies. A durable link (also known as a persistent link, permalink or stable URL) is a permanent web address that directs users to a specific, unchanging location for online content. That way, if the policy is updated, readers are directed to the most current version.
If your policy data store provides a way to save notes along with a policy, include links to any Elemeno resources that reference the policy so that when the policy gets updated, the policy owner is reminded to update the Elemeno resource(s) accordingly.
