Recording routines for online competitions

How to participate in an online competitions as a gymnast.

Updated over a week ago

1. Preparing for the online competition

We highly recommend you record your competition routine(s) on two phones:

  • your phone, recording via Elevien

  • another phone (e. g. your coach or team member’s), recording with the default phone camera for backup

This will ensure that a slow or unstable internet connection does not cause any technical difficulties with your participation.

To avoid recording or upload issues, follow these tips:

  • Check your upload speed using speedtest.net. It should be at least 20Mbps for uploads to finish within 5 minutes. A stable connection is key.

  • Create a test competition in Elevien, add yourself as a gymnast, and upload a video to see how long it takes (Elevien competitions are private by default)

  • If uploads take too long, switch to a location with faster and more stable internet (Wi-Fi or 4G).

Note: Before recording, please double-check that you have entered the correct number under the gymnast's name in the registration form. The routine must be recorded using the gymnast's account.

2. Recording routine

Once you open the competition in Elevien, you will see a "Record" button in the bottom right corner. Use this to capture your routine by placing your phone on a tripod or handing it to your coach or teammate. Once the recording is done, your performance will be automatically uploaded for judges to evaluate. You only have one take, so do not test the recording option before the start of the event!

3. Recording guidelines

The camera recording should be made from the side of the apparatus. Make sure that you are fully visible throughout the recording without any obstructions. Position yourself so that your entire body can fit in the frame, but not too far away that the details cannot be seen clearly.

If you are competing on Floor, make sure your body stays in the frame the entire time. Instruct the person who is recording you to move the camera as you move across the floor and to record the entire Vault (from the run-up to the landing).

The superior jury will award a final score of zero for any exercise that cannot be fully evaluated due to the poor angle or distance of the images, or poor detail of the gymnast in the recording.

4. Using the Filming Guides

Before you start recording, we recommend tapping the “Guides” option in the top-left corner of the screen. This will show you apparatus-specific filming instructions to help ensure your video meets the judging criteria.

5. Recording multiple gymnasts with one device (beta)

We have introduced a new beta feature that allows one recording device to be assigned to multiple gymnasts. This is especially useful for coaches who need to record routines for several participants during online competitions.

Previously, each gymnast needed to be recorded on a separate device, which could be complicated for coaches working with larger teams. With this beta feature, our support team can manually assign one device to multiple gymnasts in the competition system, enabling you to capture multiple routines from the same phone.

Important:

  • This feature is currently in beta and is not available for self-service.

  • To use it, please contact our support team in advance.
