Scores are calculated according to the latest FIG Code of Points.

D Scores and Penalty Deductions

When a gymnast performs a routine, judges enter two types of scores: D scores and E scores. D scores, or difficulty scores, are based on the complexity and difficulty of the routine. The higher the D score, the more difficult the routine is considered to be. On the other hand, E scores, or execution scores, are based on how well the routine was performed. Additionally, judges may also enter penalty deductions for the duration of the performance or crossing the line during the performance.

Calculating E Scores

E scores are calculated from 10, with deductions taken for mistakes or errors. However, the final E score is not simply the total of all deductions. Instead, it is calculated differently depending on the number of E judges on an apparatus.

If there are 4 or less E judges on an apparatus, their total average score is calculated as the Final E score. However, for subsequent numbers of E judges, the final score is averaged from 3 middle scores for odd numbers of judges, and from 4 middle scores for even numbers of judges. This ensures that the final E score is fair and accurate, regardless of the number of judges.

Vault Scoring

As gymnasts on Vault can have two attempts, there are special combinations of individual and final score calculations. For each Vault attempt, judges give D/E/Penalty scores, with one digit after the decimal point. The final score for each attempt is then presented with 3 digits after the decimal point.

For the final score on Vault, the average score from the first and second attempt is used. This is calculated by taking the final score of the first and second attempt and dividing it by 2. The final score is then presented in the format "x.yyy" with three decimal places.

Choosing the Vault Score for Final Score Calculation

For each result list, such as Individual apparatus, All Around, and Team, there is an option to choose which vault score is calculated towards the final score. The options are: Average of two vaults, First vault, or Better vault. This allows for flexibility in scoring and ensures that the final score accurately reflects the gymnast's performance.
