How does the video upload work?
When you record a gymnast’s routine directly in Elevien, or upload a video from your phone’s gallery, the video is automatically uploaded to Elevien in the background.
This means you don’t need to wait for one video to finish uploading before starting a new recording. You can continue recording other routines while previous videos are uploading in the background.
The upload process works as follows:
Recording begins — The video is immediately saved to a dedicated folder on your device and added to the upload queue.
Recording ends — The video is prepared for upload (segments merged if you used pause, audio removed if required).
Upload begins — The app automatically sends the video to the server in the background.
Upload complete — The video is available on the platform and the local file is removed from the device.
During an upload, you can continue using the app normally — you do not need to stay on the same screen. However, we recommend not force-quitting the app during an upload, as this may interrupt the transfer.
Recommended device check before each competition
Before each tournament, check the recording device’s available storage. If previous competitions have left files in the app’s memory, we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the app from the App Store or Play Store to ensure a clean state.
Tracking upload status
IDuring an upload, a status bar is displayed at the top or bottom of the screen showing:
Upload progress — how many MB have been sent out of the total file size.
Estimated time remaining.
Queue position — if multiple videos are queued, the current video’s position is shown.
After each upload completes (successfully or not), the bar displays a message for 3 seconds before disappearing or moving to the next video.
Who can record videos?
Recording is available for the following roles. It is important to understand which role you have in the competition:
Gymnasts — Can record their own routines for online or hybrid competitions, provided they are added to the tournament as participants with a valid phone number.
Coaches or designated recorders — Added by the tournament administrator to record routines on behalf of gymnasts. Most often coaches, but can also be judges or other authorised personnel.
On-site recorders — Added by the tournament administrator to record routines for all participants during on-site competitions, primarily for review or video archiving.
Tournament administrators — Can record routines and manage all video uploads within the tournament. See manual upload instructions below.
What if something goes wrong during an upload?
Elevien has multiple layers of protection to ensure that no video is lost, even if the upload is interrupted.
Automatic retries
If an upload fails due to a network error, the app will automatically retry — up to 6 times. You do not need to do anything; the app recognises the problem and retries on its own.
Waiting for an internet connection
If the device has no internet access, the video stays in the upload queue and waits for the connection to be restored. The app checks network status every second. If internet is unavailable for more than 2 hours, the video is automatically saved to your device’s gallery so it is not lost.
Automatic save to gallery as a safety measure
If an upload ultimately fails for any reason — all retries exhausted, prolonged connection loss, or a server error — the video is automatically saved to your device’s gallery (Photos). This ensures you always have access to the recording and can share it manually if needed.
Protection against stuck videos
If a video gets stuck in the upload queue for any reason (for example, the app closed unexpectedly during recording), a safety mechanism will detect this after 5 minutes and automatically attempt to upload the video or save it to your gallery.
Cleanup of leftover files
Every few seconds, the app checks for video files on the device that are no longer in the upload queue. If it finds any, it saves them to your gallery and removes them to free up space.
What if my video didn’t upload?
If your video didn’t upload to Elevien, don’t worry — it is not lost.
When an upload fails, the video is automatically saved to your phone’s gallery.
The video may not appear as the most recent file, as it is usually sorted by the time it was recorded. Be sure to check older timestamps in your gallery.
If you cannot find the video or the upload seems stuck, try the following:
Check your internet connection. Make sure your device is connected and the connection is stable. If using Wi-Fi, try moving closer to the router or restarting it.
Switch networks if possible. If Wi-Fi is unstable, try switching to mobile data.
Restart the app or your device. Close and reopen Elevien, or restart your device to resolve temporary issues.
Log out and log back in. Logging out of Elevien and signing back in can help the upload resume.
Important: when you log out, all videos currently in the upload queue will be removed from the queue. However, the safety mechanism will still detect the leftover video files on your device and automatically save them to your gallery.
Logging out is the last line of defence — in almost all cases this results in the video being saved to the gallery.
As a precaution, you may also ask someone else to record a backup video on their phone. If needed, this backup can be uploaded to Elevien manually.
Who can upload videos manually?
Manual video uploads are only available to tournament administrators and judges assigned as recorders, and can be performed only via the Elevien mobile app.
How to manually upload a video
Open the Elevien mobile app.
Go to the Home screen and select the tournament where you are assigned as an administrator or recording judge.
Find the gymnast and open the specific apparatus performance screen — this is the screen where videos and detailed results are normally displayed.
Tap Upload video.
Select the correct video from your phone’s gallery.
Once selected, the video will upload and be attached to the gymnast’s performance.
Important: Before recording, make sure the Elevien app has permission to access your phone’s gallery. Without this permission, videos cannot be saved locally and may be lost if an upload fails.
If you are not an administrator or recording judge
If you are a gymnast, coach, or designated recorder and a video fails to upload:
Contact the tournament administrator and inform them that the video upload failed.
Locate the video on the device that recorded it by checking the phone’s gallery.
Send the video to the administrator, who can then upload it manually to Elevien.
FAQ
Can I close the app during an upload?
Upload runs via a background session and can continue even when the app is not active on screen. However, we recommend not force-quitting the app during an upload, as this may interrupt the transfer.
What if my device turns off during an upload?
The video remains saved on the device. When you restart the app, the upload will resume where it left off, or the video will be saved to your gallery if the upload can no longer continue.
What if I don’t have enough storage space in my gallery?
If saving to the gallery fails (for example, due to insufficient space or a missing permission), the video file remains in the app’s folder on the device. The safety mechanism will continue attempting to save it to the gallery every few seconds until it succeeds.
How can I check if a video was successfully uploaded?
After a successful upload, the video will be visible on the results screen of the relevant gymnast within the app. You will also receive an in-app notification confirming the successful upload.
