Backing up your external hard drive is just as simple as backing up any other folder on your computer. You can back up an external drive via Backup or Archive in the Elgiganten Cloud desktop app.
Backup via the "Backup" feature
The Backup feature is ideal for users who want their files to be automatically updated. Here’s how to use it:
Open the desktop application
Navigate to Files, then select Backup
Click "Add folder" and select your external drive
Once added, the application will automatically back up the contents of the external drive to the cloud. Any changes made to the files locally will be reflected in the cloud backup as long as the drive is connected to your computer. This ensures your data is always up to date.
Backup via the "Archive" feature
The Archive feature is suitable for users who want a static backup of their files:
Open the desktop application
Navigate to Files, then select Archive
Click "Upload folder" and select your external drive
Unlike the Backup method, files uploaded to the Archive will not update automatically. They will remain unchanged unless you manually upload a new version. This method is ideal for storing data that does not change frequently.
Important Considerations
Disconnected drives: When the external drive is disconnected, it may not appear in the list of backup devices. However, the previously backed-up content remains available on the website.
Reconnecting drives: If you used Backup to upload data from the external drive, remember that the drive must be connected to the computer to continue scanning and uploading changes. Be sure to connect the drive regularly to maintain an up-to-date backup.
