Updated over a year ago

This article will give you an introduction to the photo timeline in the mobile app, as well as how manage albums. Here is a brief summary og what you will learn:

  • How your photos and videos are organized

  • How to create and share albums

  • How Places works

  • Possibilites in app settings

Open Elkjøp Cloud on your phone

You open the application by pressing the Elkjøp Cloud app icon on your device's home screen. The app can be downloaded from our download page, or directly from App Store and Google play.

The Photos tab

The photo timeline has two main screen layouts. Photos, Albums and Places. The default view is Photos.

The Photos tab is a view of all your photos and videos. It shows both photos stored locally on your device and photos stored in the cloud. This way you have ALL your photos available wherever you go. You can also view and add photos to the the photo timeline on cloud.elkjop.no.

Photos are organized by time. The latest photo is on top. The oldest photo is at the bottom. To display older photos, simply swipe down the screen to scroll down.

Enable automatic backup

When you start Elkjøp Cloud for the first time, we will ask you if you want to enable automatic backup. You need to enable automatic backup and allow us access to your photos to be able to back up your photos and videos in the app.

iOS and Android put restrictions on how much background run-time every app can use, therefore an ongoing backup can get interrupted. Make sure to open the app once in a while to complete the backup.

Elkjøp Cloud can notify you when this happens so that you can make sure that all photos and videos are getting uploaded. Press Notify me in the dialogue to enable notifications.

How do I know if a photo has been backed up?

When Elkjøp Cloud discover a photo or video that has not been backed up, it displays a small badge to illustrate it is not stored in the cloud. Photos without badges have been successfully backed up to Elkjøp Cloud.

During backup, a spinning synchronize badge is displayed. Once the file has been safely backed up, this badge is removed.

You can also see the number of photos and videos remaining to be backed up at the bottom of the screen, above the photos and albums tabs. When the backup progress bar is hidden, there are no new photos to back up.

You can select photos and videos in two different ways:

  • Use the options menu (top-right) and choose "Select"

  • Long-press a photo or video

Once you are in the select mode you can select multiple photos.

To share an album, open the album you want to share, click the three dots in the upper left corner and select Share album on iOS. On Android select the sharing button in the lower right corner. This will create a share URL and open the share dialogue on your device. From the share dialogue, you can select how you want to share the URL.

Album Settings

Album settings let you control the properties of an album. You can change sharing properties such as unsharing an album or enabling/disabling other people to add their own photos.

At the bottom of the album settings page, you can delete the album.

To delete an album just press the Delete Album option under Album settings.

If you are following (subscribing) to an album, you can not delete the album. Instead, you can leave (unsubscribe) the album. The owner of the album will be notified when you leave the album.

The Places tab

Places in the mobile app shows your photos on a map. Our app automatically organize your photos by location and displays them on an interactive map. Simply tap a location pin to view all photos taken there.

Note that Places works best if you allow location access in your phones settings.

App settings

In your mobile app settings you can set various preferences for backups and access. To see your account settings, including subscription overview and renewal, you need to login to cloud.elkjop.no.

Account information

Usage information is displayed at the top of the settings page. Here you can see the account name and total amount of used storage. In addition you can edit your profile picture.

Backup settings

Under BACKUP settings you can enable and disable automatic backup of photos and videos. If you disable Automatic photo backup, no photos or videos will be uploaded to Elkjøp Cloud.

By default, Elkjøp Cloud will only backup photos and videos when you are connected to a wifi network. To enable backup over cellular networks, turn on the "Upload over cellular" option.

Free up space on your phone

Lastly, Elkjøp Cloud can free up storage space on your device by deleting photos and videos that are already safely backed up to Elkjøp Cloud.
