For safety reasons, before unboxing Elo, it's important to follow these required and recommended onboarding steps.

Spas that complete this onboarding have on average 4x higher buy-in from their team and many succeed in getting to over 50% hot stone add-on rate.

Step 1: Video training (required)

We've made it super simple to get started with Elo. This Elo video is required for everyone using the system and it covers the system's features and best practices in just 5 minutes. We highly recommend Spa Directors call a meeting for therapists to view this video live together with their team to ensure that everyone has fully understood it's contents.

Step 2: Help therapists understand

Elo is a revolutionary device, but traditionalists can be hesitant to change their ways. Therapists who understand the technology are much more likely to be successful. We've complied this FAQ to help you give your therapists the answers they are looking for.

Quick answers

Just so you have them handy, here are short answers to some very common questions your therapists will likely ask first:

What are the stones made of?

Elo Stones are made from a fully natural stone material that has a very high overlap in mineral quality with traditional basalt, including Olivine and Pyroxene. They look, feel, sound (go ahead and tap them) exactly like their Basalt sister.

Are there batteries in the stones?

No! Elo Stones contain no batteries. When docked, they heat up from the inside out and as soon as you remove them, they behave exactly like stone.

What about EMF?

Elo Stones produce no EMF because there are no batteries inside the stones. They are fully natural without any electronic signals.

Are the stones fully waterproof?

Yes! Go ahead and wash them in water and soap or use a sanitization wipe. You can even put them in the dishwasher if you want. The connectors on each stone are gold-plated for maximum corrosion resistance.

What oils or gels can I use?

Elo Stones are compatible with your preferred medium, including oils and water-based gels. Because they have no pores, they can glide easily with only a fraction of the medium that are required for traditional stones. Oils also wash right off without the need to scrub, saving time and effort.

What happens if I drop a stone?

Not to worry – Elo Stone is shatter-proof and won't crack.

How long does the system last?

We built Elo from medical-grade components in order to ensure that when you invest in a system, it lasts you a very long time. EloCare Device protection plans is active.

What is Elo Stone 3D?

Our 3D stone is "3 times" heavier, but the exact same size. They hold up to 3 times more heat energy and are generally used for grounding placements and larger muscle areas. You can purchase these as an add-on.

Sustainability

We're all about sustainability. Here are some interesting sustainability facts to share with your team:

  • 40x more energy efficient than water heaters

  • Built from highly recyclable materials, reducing e-waste

  • Uses up to 60% less oil because stones are non-porous and easier to glide

  • Produced in FDA-registered facilities and avoid problems associated with mining practices for basalt and Himalayan salt stone.

Step 3: Modifying your protocols

Every practice is different – you and your therapists should decide how best to take advantage of what Elo can do.

Elo can entirely replace traditional hot stone protocols and it is possible to do everything from hot stone add-ons to full-length treatments with Elo Pro.

Understanding the difference from traditional

While traditional hot stone involves heating many stones and then using each one until they lose their heat, Elo is different. Elo stones are designed to be used 2 at a time, exchanging them for freshly heated stones in the dock after a few minutes of use so that the client always gets the best experience. This also means you can massage for unlimited time with just 6 stones being swapped.

Using Elo for Add-ons

If you are just looking to provide hot stone add-ons to massages, an Elo Pro system in each treatment room is perfect for this. The system can be fully heated in just a few minutes, making it easy to quickly turn the system on when the service is requested.

Using Elo for Full services

If you're looking to do longer services, you may want to consider adding a set of Elo Stone 3D. These heavier stones come in a set of 6 in their own insulated case. To prepare for a service, the heavy stones can be heated and then placed inside the case to keep them warm so you can start with them placed on the body at the beginning of the massage. While the stones are on the body, the standard stones can be heated for use for the rest of the treatment.

Mandating Temperatures

Elo was built to give you control over temperature. We highly recommend setting an internal limit on temperatures therapists are authorized to use for different styles like skin-to-stone placements, barrier placements, holding of the stones in client hands, slow and fast stone glides etc. This can help reduce liabilities, give therapists an extra level of confidence and ensure top-notch client experience.

Step 4: Return on investment

Elo is a system capable of doing hot stone at scale, over and over, and it's time to take advantage of that. Some spas do over 80% hot stone add-on and many spas return their investment in as little as 60 days. We want you to get the most out of your Elo Pro systems. Here are a few tips to help.

Rename your services

Our research shows that the word "hot" can turn people off of a service. Instead of calling the service "hot stone", consider calling it "Thermal Stone". This

Upsell everywhere

People love to upgrade their massage. Give them an opportunity at every touchpoint.

  • Online bookings – add the option to add Thermal Stones if it doesn't already exist

  • Front of house – when guests check in, have your front of house say something like the following:

"Would you like to add soothing thermal stones to loosen tension and melt stiffness? It's a truly grounding experience"

  • In the treatment room – Most successful spas place Elo Pro into every treatment room and keep the "lamp" feature ON at all times to attract client interest. Most of the time, a client will ask about it and this gives your therapist a chance to upsell.

  • Give a demo! Elo heats up super fast. If a client isn't sure about it, encourage them to try a demo of the hot stones on their arm for about a minute. This helps introduce them to the practice and a lot of the times helps sell the add-on.

Experiment with pricing

When first introducing Elo at your spa, we recommend keeping your price-point the same as it was previously and seeing how the addition of the system naturally boosts sales. Because of the premium look of the Elo Pro system and how easy it is to add into treatments, you can explore different strategies to increase sales including increasing prices slowly or dropping prices slightly to get more people interested. Both strategies have been effective in increasing overall sales.

Step 5: The future with Elo

Stay tuned for retail opportunities and other Elo products that are set to elevate the massage experience even further.

Thanks so much for completing this onboarding and please reach out to your account representative if you need anything at all ☺️
