The Equalizer FX allows you to boost or remove specific frequencies in your sound, whether for mixing purposes or for overall sound design needs.
The Equalizer FX unit can be found in the FX section of ATOM:
The Equalizer can be found by scrolling down the FX section, and can be turned on by clicking the top right power icon or the left-side light in the Equalizer module of the FX rack section:
If the light is lit up light green then you know the Equalizer is enabled.
"Type," refers to the type of EQ that is applied. It includes Lowpass and Highpass, as well as other filter types like Notch, Bandpass Low Shelf, High Shelf and Bell.
"Freq," (or frequency) determines where the filter type is first used. Values above the "Freq," are Equalized, whereas values below it are not. Keep in mind this works differently depending on the filter type chosen, so you'll likely need to adjust this value significantly if you are jumping between different filter types.
"Gain," is only usable for Low Shelf, High Shelf, and Bell Filters, and sets how much the Equalizer is boosting or cutting the frequency. Negative Gain values reduce loudness while positive ones increase it.
"Q" Refers to how wide or narrow the bandwidth of the Equalizer is. Higher Q values mean the Equalization is more broad, while narrow ones mean the Equalization range is much more narrow in terms of frequency.
"Mode," sets the Equalizer to middle or side or stereo modes. Stereo means the Equalizer works on all aspects of the signal, while "Mid," only processes the non-stereo elements of the audio. "Side," mode only applies the EQ to the stereo signal itself, which can be useful for some more advanced mixing use cases.
