What is the difference between the Price Summary and the Year 1 System Production?

It is the difference between Power and Electricity. In the above example 8.5 kW of power installed on a home will produce 18,500 kWh of electricity in a year. Utility companies bill customers on a per kWh basis, so the production number is generally the one the customer and the Sales Rep are more interested in.

Price Summary is the size of the system. System Size affects pricing. System size is a simple calculation of panel count Γ— panel wattage. The size of the system directly correlates to the cost since its a size representation of the type and quantity of the panels used.

The Year 1 System Production is how much power it is estimated to produce the first year. Year 1 System Production does not affect pricing, but it does affect offset. Essentially since solar never is operating 24Γ—7 calculating production is based on all sorts of things like shading, sun hours, orientation of the panels etc. Typically a solar install with good exposure is 6hrs / day of production for 365 days/ yr, which would be 25,294 kwhr/yr.

Side Note regarding DC kW vs AC kW - DC is how the electricity starts, the Inverter converts it to AC. The System Size in our system is DC.
