Creating Alerts
There are 6 basic components to creating an alert.
Name: Choose a name that describes the event (up to 30 characters).
Notification Level: The priority of the Alert determine what modes Notifications will be sent, as set by your Account Settings.
Conditions: Use logical operators to set the trigger conditions based on a particular parameter such as permissible limits.
References: Use variables and functions to create advanced alerts.
Subscribers: Choose who gets a notification. Users must belong to your organization and notifications will be sent according to their settings. If the person isn't on the list, then you can add them as User.
Messages: Include more information when the Alert is triggered such as actions that should be taken (up to 50 characters).
Multiple Conditions
You chain together multiple conditions that work jointly with “AND” or “OR” logic. Conditions linked by AND must all be true at the same time for the Alert to trigger.
Conditions linked by OR only require one condition in the chain to be true.
Monitoring Alerts
Learn about the lifecycle of an Alert to be prepared to take action when it arrives in your inbox or text messages.
Alert Statuses:
Active: An Alert becomes Active once a condition is triggered and you'll get a notification. It will remain Active as long as the condition is true.
Resolved: Once the condition is no longer true then the Alert will become Resolved and you will get a follow-up notification that the alert is resolved.
Idle: After a period of time, a Resolved alert will change to an Idle status.
Alert Events:
A history of every Alert occurrence will be recorded in the Alerts Events page.
You can toggle between a calendar heat-map of either "Duration" or number of "Triggered" events over the last quarter, allowing you to differentiate between frequently occurring events and persistent events.
Selecting a date will show the exact trigger time as well as duration of each event. You can further expand each event line to see some of the data points immediately leading up to, at, and following the alert for context.
Editing Alerts
You can edit any parameter, subscribers or name and message of an Alert at any time by clicking on the pencil edit icon or the Configuration button. Please note that making any changes will reset the Alert and clear the Alerts Events history. It's treated as a newly created Alert. If you need to keep the Alerts Events history, then consider removing all subscribers and creating a separate new Alert.
Getting Alerts
Two factors determine how you'll receive Alerts:
Notifications Settings in your Account Settings.
Notification Level set within each Alert.
Alert Frequency
The Alert system has a feature that limits the amount of notifications sent when an alert is triggered and/or resolved quickly in succession to prevent sending a large amount of emails or texts and appearing like spam. For example if an alert was triggered several times over a few minutes, it will only send the last alert state within 15 minutes. You can check the Alert Event History for full details.
