How to start a ride from your iPhone Lock Screen

Add the Equilab widget to your iPhone Lock Screen and choose which horse and training type it starts with.

Add the Equilab widget to your iPhone Lock Screen so you can start tracking a training from there. When you tap the widget, your iPhone asks you to unlock it, then Equilab opens and starts tracking automatically. You can choose which horse and training type the widget starts with.

Before you start

The Equilab Lock Screen widget works on iPhones with iOS 16 or later. There's no Equilab widget or quick-start shortcut on Android.

Add the Equilab widget to your Lock Screen

  1. Tap and hold your iPhone Lock Screen.

  2. Tap Customize at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Select Lock Screen.

  4. Tap Add Widgets.

  5. Find Equilab under Suggested Widgets, or scroll down the list of apps to Equilab. Tap or drag the Equilab widget to the Lock Screen.

  6. Optional: tap the Equilab widget you just added and choose a horse and training type.

  7. Tap the close button, then tap Done.

Start a training from your Lock Screen

Tap the Equilab widget on your Lock Screen. Your iPhone asks you to unlock it, then Equilab opens and starts tracking automatically with the horse and training type set in the widget.

If you didn't choose a horse or training type in the widget, the training starts without them. You can add them afterward: see Edit a saved ride. To change the widget's horse or training type later, tap and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, tap the Equilab widget, then tap it again and select a horse and a training type if you'd like.

How to add the Equilab widget

If you ride a gaited horse, the horse in the widget decides whether tölt can be detected:

If you ride a gaited horse

Choose your horse in the Equilab widget before you ride. Equilab only looks for tölt when the horse's type is set to Icelandic Horse, and a training started from the widget without a horse has no horse type. For more, see Tölt isn't showing for my gaited horse.

If the Lock Screen widget doesn't work

  • Equilab isn't in the widget list: check that your iPhone has iOS 16 or later. Lock Screen widgets aren't available on older versions.

  • There's no room for the widget: the Lock Screen has room for one row of widgets. Tap Remove on another widget to make room.

  • The training stopped or was cut short: see My ride stopped recording or was cut short.

If nothing helped, contact support and include the date and time of the training and a screenshot.
