How to Pre-Program Your Sygno-Fi Wireless Fire System

Your guide to programming a Sygno-Fi System

Updated over a week ago

🗺️ 1. Add Floorplans to SygNEX

To begin, you’ll need drawings of your site:

  • If you have digital drawings (PNG, JPEG), upload them directly into SygNEX.

  • If you only have printed plans, take clear photos and import them into SygNEX. These will be used to build out each floor of your system.

🔋 2. Check All Equipment Before Programming

Before setting up your system, ensure that all hardware is working correctly:

  • Power on translators and expanders (using either a fire panel or 24V PSU).

  • Use a Micro-USB cable to connect each translator to your PC and check for communication via SygNEX.

  • If any units fail to power or respond, they should be checked before continuing.

🗃️ 3. Organise and Label Devices

Using your drawings and wireless survey (if available):

  • Group devices according to the translator or expander they’ll be connected to.

  • Clearly label each device with its intended:

    • Translator/Expander group

    • Loop number (if applicable)

    • Location of Device

This will help keep things organised when scanning and programming devices.

🧭 4. Add Translators & Expanders in SygNEX

  1. Scan the QR code of each translator/expander into SygNEX and then drag from the virtual warehouse onto the map

  2. Assign infrastructure channels and field channels based on your wireless survey or system layout.

  3. Change the loop address of the translator

  4. If using multiple translators:

    • Add a new system in SygNEX for each one.

    • Repeat steps for each translator and associated expanders.

🔗 5. Add and Link Devices

  1. Scan the QR code of each device into SygNEX and then drag from the virtual warehouse onto the map

  2. For each device:

    • Add a description or location in its properties (e.g., "Office 2 – Ceiling").

  3. Use ‘Multiple Selection Mode’ at the bottom of SygNEX to select devices in the order they were scanned.

  4. Click the link icon and then click the correct translator or expander to assign those devices.

  5. Once all devices connected to a Translator—including those linked via any associated Expanders—are present, press the A to Z button

Repeat for all devices across your system.

📶 6. Set Expander Discovery Channels

For each expander, you’ll need to configure the correct channel:

  1. On the panel:

    • Press Enter.

    • Enter Level 1 Password: 001.

    • Select Expander Config > Set Discovery Mode.

    • Enter Level 2 Password: 002.

    • Choose the required discovery channel (typically Channel A or as per your layout).

    • Press Enter twice to confirm.

This step ensures devices will be discoverable by the translator.

⚠️ 7. Enable Fault Monitoring on Expanders

In SygNEX:

  1. Click on each expander in your system view.

  2. Select Edit Device Properties.

  3. Enable both:

    • Mains Fault Monitoring

    • Battery Fault Monitoring

  4. Apply changes and confirm.

This ensures faults will be reported to your fire panel correctly.

🧙 8. Build the Wireless System in SygNEX

  1. Connect your PC to the translator using a USB A to Micro USB cable.

  2. In SygNEX, select the translator and click ‘Build System Wizard’ (magic wand icon).

🌐 9. Set Up the Wireless Network

In the Build Wizard:

  • Go to Network Setup.

  • This will pair the translator with its expanders.

  • Make sure the discovery channel selected matches the one you set earlier.

🔁 10. Wake Devices and Link Wirelessly

  1. In the wizard, choose Network Device Update.

  2. Devices will be contacted via wake-up mode.

    • If a device doesn’t respond, press the wake-up button on it manually.

    • The system will try 3 times before marking a failure.

  3. Once complete, all devices should now be wirelessly linked to their correct expanders.

Repeat Steps 8–10 for each translator.

📥 11. Save Your Site File

Once programming is complete:

  • Save your project file in a secure location.

  • This file can be re-used later for system updates or backups.
