Connect Event Temple to Zapier & Create Your First Automation

Learn how to connect Event Temple to Zapier using API keys and build your first automation. Includes step-by-step setup, connection instructions, and a simple example using Gmail to create a lead in Event Temple.

Event Temple connects to Zapier using an API key. This allows you to build automations between Event Temple and thousands of other apps.

You must be an Administrator to connect Zapier


Before you begin

Create or sign in to Zapier

Go to Zapier’s website and either:


Step 1: Generate your API key in Event Temple

In Event Temple:

  • Go to Settings → Developers → API Keys

If you are part of a Chain:

  • Go to Chain → Settings → Developers → API Keys

Then:

  1. Click New API Token

  2. Enter a name for the token

  3. Click Create API Key

  4. Copy the generated API key

⚠️ If you are part of a Multi-Org (Chain), you will need Chain Authorization to access API Keys in Event Temple. Without this, you will not be able to generate or use API keys for Zapier.


Step 2: Connect Event Temple in Zapier

In Zapier:

  1. Go to My Apps

  2. Click Connect a new account

  3. Search for EventTemple

  4. Select EventTemple

  5. Paste your API key when prompted

  6. Click Yes, Continue

Your accounts are now connected.


Build your first Zap

In this example, we’ll create a Zap that generates a new lead in Event Temple when an email is received in Gmail.


Step 1: Set up your Trigger (Gmail)

  1. Click Create → Zaps

  2. Select Trigger

  3. Choose Gmail

  4. Select trigger event (e.g. New Email)

  5. Test your trigger


Step 2: Set up your Action (Event Temple)

  1. Add an Action step

  2. Select EventTemple

  3. Choose an action (e.g. Create Lead / Booking)

  4. Map fields from Gmail to Event Templ

  • Ensure all required fields in your Zap are filled out.

  • Match field types correctly (e.g., use date formats for dates, numbers for numeric fields, and dropdown options for dropdown fields).

  • For custom fields, select your organization first, then click “Refresh Fields” to load the custom fields.e

Example mapping:

  • Email subject → Booking name

  • Sender email → Contact email

  • Email content → Notes

Tip: Always test the action to confirm it works as expected.


Step 3: Publish your Zap

Click Publish to activate your automation.

Your Zap is now live.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Check for Missing or Incorrect Fields: Ensure all required fields are completed and that the data types match the expected formats.

  • Review Error Messages: Look for any error messages or unexpected behavior and adjust your setup accordingly.

  • Use Zapier Support: If problems persist, use Zapier’s in-app chat support for assistance with connection issues.


Important notes

  • Multi-org accounts may require Chain-level API access

  • Zapier is a third-party tool (support is handled by Zapier’s in-app chat support)

  • In Zapier, Event Temple appears as EventTemple
