This post will walk you through connecting the Socket Mobile Series 7 scanners to the Check-In apps. If you have a different scanner, check out our guide on connecting most other scanning hardware to the apps.
Check-in Manager for iPhone / iPad
The Evey Events - Check-In Manager Apple iOS app for iPhone or iPad supports the same external scanner you may already use for your Shopify store. In addition, the scanner is available on the Shopify Hardware Store, the Socket Mobile S740 2D barcode / QR code scanner.
Suppose you already have this scanner connected to your device through the Shopify POS application. In that case, the Check-In Manager app will automatically detect it, and you can go ahead and start scanning. You'll see it on the Settings tab, under Connected Scanners.
Otherwise, here are the steps to connect it:
Go to your iPad Settings (not the app settings) and ensure Bluetooth is turned on under Settings -> Bluetooth.
Turn on the barcode scanner by holding the power button until the scanner beeps.
Scan this QR code to enable iOS Application Mode for the scanner, and you'll hear three beeps.
On your phone/tablet, select the scanner from the Bluetooth device list under Settings -> Bluetooth. You'll see the scanner appear under the Connected / My Devices list.
In the Evey Events Check-In Manager app, go to the Settings screen. You should see the scanner automatically detected by the app.
If at any point the connection fails, try unpairing the scanner from your device and connecting it again. To unpair the scanner:
Turn on your scanner.
Press and hold the scan button. At the same time, press and hold the Power button. When you hear three beeps, release both buttons. Your barcode scanner will power off.
On your phone/tablet, go to Settings -> Bluetooth and find the scanner in the list.
Tap the info icon on the right of your scanner, and then "Forget this device."
Check-in Manager for Android devices
To connect the scanner to your Android device, SocketMobile has provided a companion app called SocketMobile Companion. The steps to connect the device are:
Go to the Google Play store, search "SocketMobile," or follow this link. Then, install the SocketMobile Companion app.
Open the companion app, and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.
Tap the Add new device button.
Select the 700 series device to add.
Follow the instructions from the app to complete the device connection.
Tap the "Switch mode" button on the top right to change the scanner to HID (Bluetooth keyboard) mode, and follow the Socket Mobile Companion app instructions.
Tap the info icon on the right of your scanner, and then "Unpair" or "Forget device."
