Your privacy is our policy.

Threads is a hybrid social-media messenger, so the information you add to your profile such as your name and photo are visible to those you choose to connect with. The Moments, Check-Ins, and Thread Starters you create (which may or may not include photos) are available only to the people with whom you explicitly choose to share.

When you grant access to your photos, we only use the photos you individually pick for things like your profile avatar, photos you add to your Moments, Check-Ins, and Thread Starters, or photos you send in the messenger. None of your other photos are uploaded to our servers.

When you grant access to your contacts we only use this permission to show your contacts back to you in the app so that you’re able to select individual contacts in later steps. When you select individual contacts to receive your Moment, Check-In, or Thread Starter their phone number is added to your account so that we can deliver your Moment, Check-In, or Thread Starter to them via text. When you select individual contacts to invite to connect with you on Threads, their phone number is used to identify a pending connection of yours, so that when they ultimately sign up for Threads the two of you are already connected.

Only the contacts you individually select in either circumstance will ever be sent to our server, the rest never leave your phone.
