Custom Formulas explained

Create Custom Formulas for irregular priced Products

Overview

A Custom Formula calculates the sales price of a product from a user-defined equation rather than a fixed per-unit rate. This is useful for items where price depends on more than quantity alone, such as sheet material priced by surface area, fabricated parts priced by weight, or custom-cut goods priced by length or volume.

Custom Formulas are configured on individual products in the Product Catalogue, via the Product is bought/sold in dropdown.

When to create a Custom Formula

A Custom Formula is the right choice when a product's price depends on a calculated value rather than a fixed unit rate. Common inputs include:

  • Weight

  • Volume

  • Surface area

  • Density

  • Width, height, or length

  • Any combination of the above (for example, width Γ— height for area-based pricing)

Create a Custom Formula

  1. Open the product in the Product Catalogue.

  2. In the Product is bought/sold in dropdown, select Custom Formula. The Custom Formula area appears.

  3. Rename Labels to represent each input in the formula (such as width, length) or click add to add additional Labels or field

  4. Enter a numeric Value for each formula field under each Labels.

  5. Set the operator between each pair of values. Available operators are +, -, *, and /. The default is *.

  6. Add parentheses to control calculation order if needed.

  7. Select Save.
