How to upgrade FactoryMaster

This article can provide you everything you need to know on how to upgrade FactoryMaster.

⚠️Important: Please read the following bullet points before proceeding

  • In order to upgrade to the latest version of FactoryMaster you will need to upgrade to version 12.14 first. You will find this at the link in the next paragraph.

  • If your version of FactoryMaster is below 11.24 DO NOT proceed with the steps in this article. Please contact FactoryMaster Support, referencing the title of this article.

Ensure all users are out of the FactoryMaster system being upgraded.

Once downloaded, run the setup file on the FactoryMaster server and follow the steps the Wizard provides.
Please ensure to upgrade the Play system first and test it before upgrading the Live system, as you cannot revert back to a previous version of FactoryMaster once the Live version has been upgraded.


Upgrading Play System

  1. Log on to the FactoryMaster server.

  2. Using a web browser navigate to this link .

  3. Click the version number which has the “General” Release Type to navigate to a new page.

  4. Click the download icon just below “Download Software” to begin the download.

  5. Make a note of the password beneath the download link.

  6. Once the file has downloaded, open the download folder and run the setup file. (Windows may try to block this from running. If you cannot bypass the block then please speak to somebody in your IT department)

⚠️Warning: Ensure all users are out of the FactoryMaster system you are upgrading.

  1. Read and make note of the “Guidelines for a successful upgrade” and then click Next

  2. Enter the password you made note of on point 5 and then click Next

  3. Select the instance of FactoryMaster which you want to upgrade and then click Next

    1. Most systems will only have one instance. If there are multiple instances, double-check to ensure you are upgrading the correct one.

  4. Ensure only the ‘Play System’ option is ticked and then click Next

  5. Users should see ‘No open network files detected. Please click next button.’, then click Next

    1. If there are any users still logged in to the FactoryMaster system you will be told on this screen. You can identify which machines are still logged in using the Shared Folders Management button, clicking Yes and then double-clicking Open Files. Once done, ask the users to close down their FactoryMaster, go back to the FactoryMaster installation wizard, click Refresh and you should see the message in point 12. Click Next to continue with the installation

  6. Users will need to run SQLUtils to complete a Copy Live to Play to copy the Live data on to the Play system for testing purposes (This can be bypassed if absolutely necessary by ticking ‘Override Backup Restriction’ but it is recommended to perform a Copy Live to Play)

    1. SQLUtils can be found at the following file path in Windows Explorer: ..\FactoryMaster\FMAST11\ClientSetup\Other\SQLUtils.exe

    2. Once opened, select ‘Copy Live to Play’ and then click Go

  7. Once Copy Live to Play has completed, click ‘Re-check Backup Status’ and should now be able to click Next

  8. Click Install

  9. Click Finish

  10. Open the FactoryMaster Play version to complete the update.

  11. If prompted to upgrade the database structure, click Yes


Upgrading Live System

  1. Run the setup file downloaded to upgrade the Play system

    1. Windows may try to block this from running. If unable to get past the block, then speak to someone in the IT department to help

⚠️Warning: Ensure all users are out of the FactoryMaster system you are upgrading

  2. Enter the password made note of on downloading the software, and then click Next

  3. Select the instance of FactoryMaster which to upgrade and then click Next

    1. Most systems will only have one instance. If there are multiple instances, double-check to ensure the correct one is being upgraded.

  4. Ensure only the ‘Live System’ option is ticked and then click Next

  5. You should see ‘No open network files detected. Please click next button, then click Next

    1. If there are any users still logged in to the FactoryMaster system, you will be told on this screen. You can identify which machines are still logged in using the Shared Folders Management button, clicking Yes and then double-clicking Open Files. Once done, ask the users to close down their FactoryMaster, go back to the FactoryMaster installation wizard, click Refresh, and you should see the message in point 12. Click Next to continue with the installation.

  6. If the Next button is greyed out, you will need to run SQLUtils to complete a backup (This can be bypassed if absolutely necessary by ticking ‘Override Backup Restriction’, but it is recommended you complete a backup).

    1. SQLUtils can be found at the following file path in Windows Explorer: ..\FactoryMaster\FMAST11\ClientSetup\Other\SQLUtils.exe

    2. Once opened, select ‘Backup Live Database Only’ and then click Go

  7. Once the backup has completed, click ‘Re-check Backup Status’ and you should now be able to click Next.

  8. Click Install

  9. Click Finish

  10. Open the FactoryMaster Live version to complete the update.

  11. If you are prompted to upgrade the database, click Yes
