Checking children in and out of the nursery is made simple with the separate Check-in/out screen. The screen can be set up to allow parents to check in their child with additional security features such as a PIN code and now a QR code. This article outlines how to set up and use the Check-in/out screen with the QR Code Check-in/out feature.
How does the QR Code Check-in/out feature work?
Once the QR Code Check-in/out feature has been toggled on for your center via your Settings, we recommend placing a tablet that's logged into the Check-in/out screen at the entrance in a spot that easy for parents to access.
The tablet will show a QR code for parents to scan with their own devices. This QR code will automatically update every 5 seconds to ensure that parents cannot share a picture of it with others (such as with a PIN code that can easily be shared or forgotten) or check their children in or out unless they're inside the center.
Scanning the QR code will lead parents to complete the Check in/out flow from their own devices. Parents have 15-30 minutes to complete the Check in/out flow before the process times out and they need to scan the QR code again.
Once complete, their child will be checked in and this will be reflected in the room overview and the activity feed for that child.
How to set up QR Code Check-in/out
The QR Code Check-in/out feature will automatically appear once you've toggled it on in Settings → Check in/out.
Once you've toggled on the QR check in feature, log into your Check-in/out screen by clicking on Show password and entering it after clicking Go to Famly Check-in. If the QR code doesn't show right away, log out and in again to refresh your Check-in/out screen.
Please note, if you turn off your tablet in the afternoon or evening or log out of the Check-in/out screen, you’ll need to log back in the next day. You can do this by going to the icon you added on your home screen and using the password found in Settings → Check in/out (this password will update every day).
Getting parents started
Let parents know that they'll need a smartphone with access to a camera in order to use the QR Code Check-in/out screen. It is important that they update their app to the latest version of Famly This can be done in the app store on their smartphone.
If parents choose to use the camera app on their smartphone, they don't need to do any further setup and can get scanning right away.
If they use the in-app scanner within the Famly app, they'll need to give Famly permission to use the camera by toggling this on in their phone settings as they would do with any other app.
Printing the QR code
If you'd prefer to have a static QR code for parents to scan, you can choose to print it out. This is a great option if your center does not have a digital tablet at the entrance.
To print your QR code, head to Settings → Check in/out and scroll down to the Print QR code section. Click on Print from here to open your print options. If you'd like to print a new QR code, simply click on Refresh QR code and click on Print again. A new QR code will be generated.
If you'd like to use the digital QR code on a tablet as well as a printed version elsewhere at your center, you can, of course, use both methods at the same time.
QR Code Check-in and PIN Check-in
If you'd like to use both the PIN Check-in/out screen and the QR code Check-in/out screen, you can enable both of these option by toggling on PIN code required for check in and QR check in in Settings → Check in/out.
Enabling both of these options will display the Check-in/out screen on your tablet like so:
How to disable QR Code Check-in/out
You can switch off the QR Code Check-in/out feature by going to Settings → Check in/out and toggling off the QR Code Check in there. If you are unable to toggle this feature off, or if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to support@famly.co.

If a parent or member of staff run into any issues using the QR Code Check-in/out screen, try asking the following questions to troubleshoot:
Have they updated their app to the latest version?
If they are using their phone camera to scan the QR code and this doesn’t work then ask them to go and log into the Famly app from their phone. From here click on Check in / out in the menu (under their profile picture top right). This will open the in-app camera
If they're still having trouble, collect some information about the device they're using (make and model) and get in touch with support@famly.co
