Where does Farmbot's weather information come from?

Farmbot's Virtual Weather Station (VWS) data is provided by Pairtree and based on content sourced from Dark Sky which utilises data from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and other sources.

How is the Virtual Weather Station data generated?

The data is generated using a mix of historic physical observation modelling and a wide range of physical BOM sites. Based on your monitor's location, Dark Sky uses a 5x5 km grid to make the data as accurate as possible.

What data is generated?

Name

Description

Measurement

Temperature

The degree or intensity of heat present.

°C

Apparent temperature

Apparent temperature is the temperature equivalent perceived by humans i.e. what it ‘feels like’ outside. Caused by the combined effects of air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed.

°C

Humidity

Relative humidity (RH) directly influences the water relations of plant and indirectly affects leaf growth, photosynthesis, pollination, the occurrence of diseases and finally economic yield.

%H

Rain Probability

The likelihood of it raining as measured by a percentage. This is forecasted in a 6-hour window.

%

Barometric Pressure

The measurement of air pressure in the atmosphere, specifically the measurement of the weight exerted by air molecules at a given point on Earth.

hPa

Wind Direction & Speed

Wind speed is defined as the average wind speed over two minutes. Wind direction shows the cardinal direction from which it originates.

km/h

Delta T

Delta T is an atmospheric moisture parameter. It is defined as the dry bulb temperature minus the wet-bulb temperature and provides a better indication of water evaporation rate than RH. Higher Delta T means faster water evaporation.

°C

Cloud Cover

The fraction of the sky that is obscured by clouds when observed from a particular location.

  2. Emergency situations - Information provided by Farmbot must not be used in emergency situations. In emergencies please refer to the Bureau of Meteorology warnings page.

  3. The nature of weather - It is important to remember that weather is unpredictable. Weather forecasting is not an exact science, and weather observations can contain errors, omissions or loss of data.

  4. System failures and technical glitches - It is also important to remember that system failures and technical glitches can occur that may result in errors, omissions, loss of data or notification failures. These include (but are not limited to) server failure, software logical errors, power outages, and anything else that results in Farmbot systems failures.

  5. Liability indemnity - As a result of the nature of weather and the existence of system failures and technical glitches, Farmbot does not accept responsibility for any direct or indirect loss or damage, whatever the cause (even by negligence), as a result of the use of information displayed on Farmbot or provided by Farmbot, or if Farmbot is unavailable. This may also include information provided to Farmbot by external websites.
