Overview
Knowing your water and particularly your carrying capacity is crucial. For this reason, you may have your dams surveyed.
If you have, Farmbot allows you to upload this survey map of your dam for more accurate volume readings as well as showing your dam's reduced level (aka relative level) in metres.
Before you start
Some things to know before you begin the process
The template you download is a specific file type called a comma separate value (CSV) file. When you fill out and re-save the template, ensure it saves as a CSV file. Learn more about CSV files here
Each field is in a specific unit of measure
The reduced level is in metres. Learn more about RL here
Sliced Volume in megalitres
Note: each row is the accumulative volume of the dam
E.g. Row 1 has 10 ML at 1 metre, Row 2 is 20 ML at 2 metres - this shows there is an additional 10 ML in the following metre of the dam.
Surface Area in metres squared (this column is optional)
Importing your survey
The file import process has two parts: First, you'll prepare your spreadsheet with your dam's survey values and save it as a CSV file. Next, you'll upload your file in MyFarmbot.
Note: You can import a dam survey when setting up a new dam sensor or in the Settings > Survey. The below steps show you via the settings.
Part 1
In MyFarmbot, click on the dam you want to update
Click into the 'more options' three dots in the top right-hand corner and click Survey
Click "Download Template" and view it in Excel or Google Sheets (or any other spreadsheet program)
You will see three columns: Reduced Level, Slice Volume and Surface Area
Enter or paste the values provided by your surveyor in the relevant columns. Make sure you consider the unit of measure.
For example:
Save the file in CSV format. This option can usually be accessed from the File menu in your spreadsheet program, labelled as "Export as .CSV" or "Download as .CSV". Different spreadsheet programs will vary a little bit.

In Step 2, you will see an upload box
Click into the box and choose your survey CSV file OR drag and drop the file on the box and you will see the below message if uploaded successfully.
When you click out of settings, you will see the Dam Survey section appear above your Summary bar. Click on this to see your survey details.
