Overview

At the back of a Farmbot monitor there are ports for up to six (6) wired sensors. The Farmbot monitor can also support up to ten (10) wireless sensors (depending on the device type).

This article explains:

Port 0

Port 0 is considered the primary port and is reserved for our liquid level sensing probes e.g. water level, dam, bore, diesel and liquid fertiliser.

Port 1-4

Ports 1-4 are for other sensor types, including:

  • Rain gauge

  • Flow

  • Pressure

  • Pump control

  • Safety Check in

Sensor that use two (2) ports

It is important to note that add-ons like Pump Control and Safety Check in use TWO ports. Please read the installation guides very carefully when adding these sensors as the ordering of the ports can impact performance.

Port 5

Port 5 can be used for camera only (on compatible devices) and will not connect with any other sensors.

How to connect wireless sensors

Wireless sensors do not required any ports on the monitor. Instead they use LoRa Point to Point technology to communicate with the monitor.

To connect wireless sensors to your monitor you must:

  • Position the wireless sensor within a 5km radius from the monitor with line of sight. This is crucial as anything obstructing the view between the monitor and wireless sensor could interfere with their connection.

  • Make sure to turn the wireless sensor on when it's in range

  • Then restart your monitor so that it can detect the wireless sensor

Once your wireless sensor and monitor are connected, you can log into MyFarmbot and your new sensor will automatically appear within the platform for you to set up.

⚠️ Note: If you still cannot see your sensor, please reach out to our customer service team on 02 9901 4798 or service@farmbot.com.au

How to work out which port my sensor is plugged into

To work out which port your sensor is plugged into:

  1. Login to MyFarmbot

  2. Click into the sensor you're interested in

  3. In the top right hand corner, click on the three dots and choose About

  4. There you will see your device details, including the port number of the sensor

⚠️ Note: If a sensor uses two (2) ports, we will ONLY show the first port it is plugged into. For example, a pump control is plugged into Port 1 and 2, however, MyFarmbot will only show that it is plugged into Port 1
