Overview

MyFarmbot lets you choose when your daily rainfall totals reset, which means you can align it with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

For example, you may prefer it to reset at midnight whereas others may prefer it to reset at 9 AM to be in line with the BOM.

In this article, we'll explain the impact of changing the daily reset period and also guide you through the process of setting your preferred reset time for daily rainfall and evapotranspiration data.

ℹ️ Note that prior to this new feature, the default Daily Reset Time was midnight. This will remain the case for existing sites. However, all new sites (created after 7th June 2023) will default to 9 AM.

How it works

When Daily Reset Time is set to midnight, your rainfall/evapotranspiration is always recorded for the 24 hours of a standard day. I.e. rainfall for the 4th of May starts at 00:00 that morning and ends 11:59 PM that evening.

By changing your Daily Reset Time to another time of day, for example 9 AM, we move when we record rainfall/evapotranspiration for that given date.

For example

Rainfall for the 4th of May now starts at 9 AM on May 3rd until 8:59 AM on May 4th.

Another way to think of this, is rainfall at 5 PM on the May 4th contributes to May 5th’s rainfall.

This is useful for aligning rainfall to other weather services, such as the BOM who reset their rainfall at 9 AM. However, you have complete flexibility over this and can change your Daily Reset Time for all rain gauges within each site and the evapotranspiration sensors within weather stations.
