Overview

As a farmer, having accurate and timely rainfall data is essential for making informed decisions about your operation.

MyFarmbot allows you to choose when your daily rainfall data is reset, which means you can set it to whatever time you prefer.

For example, you may prefer it to reset at midnight whereas others may prefer it to reset at 9 AM to be in line with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

In this article, we'll explain the impact of changing the daily rainfall reset period and also guide you through the process of setting your preferred reset time for daily rainfall data.

ℹ️ Note that prior to this new feature, the default daily rainfall reset time was midnight. This will remain the case for existing sites. However, all new sites (created after 7th June 2023) will default to 9 AM.

How it works

When daily rainfall resets at midnight, your rainfall is always recorded for the 24 hours of a standard day. I.e. rainfall for the 4th of May starts at 00:00 that morning and ends 11:59 PM that evening.

By changing your daily rainfall to reset at another time of day, for example 9am, we move when we record rainfall for that given date.

For example

Rainfall for the 4th of May now starts at 9am on May 3rd until 9am on May 4th.

Another way to think of this, is rainfall at 5pm on the May 4th contributes to May 5th’s rainfall.

This is useful for aligning rainfall to other weather services, such as the BOM who reset their rainfall at 9am. However, you have complete flexibility over this and can change your Daily Rainfall Reset for all rain gauges within each site.
