The short answer is that, while there are no true acreage requirements for grants or conservation programs, you probably need at least a few acres in production to get the "bang for your buck" in applying for conservation grants.
On one hand, grants focused on sustainable agriculture education or marketing have no acreage requirement. You just need to have an established history of sales from the farm to be competitive. Typically, farmers are more competitive for these grants if they've been in production for at least one year.
On the other hand, grants focused on land-based stewardship or conservation are going to be more worth your time if you have at least a few acres. If you are a smaller operation (~5 acres), you could get funding for a high tunnel, for example. But many of these land-based conservation grants are awarded on a per-acre basis, which can favor mid-sized and larger operations.
