FarmWizard generates new tags independently of the BCMS/ScotEID government systems, so care should be taken that the tags generated in FarmWizard exactly match the quantity and number sequence from your supplier.
We recommend adhering to the following “best practice” guidelines:
Only generate tags once they have been delivered and you have confirmed the quantity and the number of the first tag from your supplier’s paperwork
To avoid any confusion later on, do not generate more tags than have been ordered in the current batch. This is in case the next batch does not follow-on from the current one
There are three methods of adding available tags to your FarmWizard herd. It is envisaged that Method One will be applicable in most situations.
Method One: Automatically generate a “follow-on” batch of tags
Go to Herd Manager > Add Tags
Scroll down to the “Download / Generate New Tags” section
Enter the exact quantity of tags in the new batch from your supplier
Click the button “Generate Tags for BCMS”
A pop-up box now displays confirming the first and last numbers of the new batch
Note: FarmWizard automatically uses the next incremental tag number, based on the last tag on your “available” list, or the last allocated calf number born into your herd (if your “available” tag list is empty).Click the button “Generate Tags” to add the new batch to the “available” tag list
Method Two: User-specified starting number for the new tag batch
Use this method when you need to start a sequence of tag numbers when the first number does not follow-on from the the last allocated calf number in your herd (or the last number on the available tag list if you have any remaining).
Go to Herd Manager > Add Tags
Scroll down to the section “Download / Generate New Tags”
Click “Advanced"
On the following pop-up box enter “UK” and the 12 digit number of the first tag in the new batch
Enter the exact quantity of tags in the new batch
The new tag batch is now previewed in the list box below
Note: if there are no tags in the preview list, please make sure you have entered the starting tag correctly – “UK” and the full 12 digit number
Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up box and click the “Confirm Generate Tags” button to add the new tags to the “Available” list (see below).
Method Three: Add new tags by uploading a “CSV” file
In some situations, you may have a specific sequence of tag numbers that you want to add to your available tag list. The layout of the file must be as follows:
the file should be saved with a “.csv” file extension
the first row should be blank or contain a column name i.e. it must not include the first tag
each tag should include “UK” with the full 12 digit number with no spaces (as below)
Go to Herd Manager > Add Tags
Scroll down to the section “Upload Tags by CSV”
Click the button “Choose File” to browse and select the CSV file containing the new tags. The name of the selected file will then be displayed next to this button
Click the button “Import File” to upload the file and add the tags to your “available” list
