SmarkRank is a patent pending admin feature that allows a travel administrator/manager for each company to easily customize the Recommended Spend for a unique travel search by using an algorithm tuner to determine what shows up in search results for their company's users.

The Tuner determines the order of hotel or flight search results, ensuring travelers see the optimal in-budget flights or hotels first. This system is designed for flexibility--accommodating luxury or budget travel depending on the company’s business objectives and culture.

Algorithm tuners for hotel and flight searches will be set up by your company's admin before Melon is rolled out for use by your company. Depending on your company's Melon site, your company's admin may choose to use pre-set Budget, Moderate, or Premium algorithm settings. Alternatively, they may create their own custom algorithm based on your company's unique requirements.

The hotel or flight results that appear for each search based on the algorithm chosen determine the Recommended Spend for a that trip.

For example, if a Premium algorithm is chosen for flights, it would give greater preference to direct flights as a convenience for travelers, even if cheaper flight options with connections might be available. This would likely increase the recommended spend for a route when the top fight results favor the more expensive direct flights rather than cheaper indirect options.
