Setting up New Labour Rates (Fergus Go)

What field staff need to know about labour rates in the Fergus Go app - and why setup itself happens on the web.

Written by Alyssa Smith

Overview

Labour rates aren't configured inside the Fergus Go app - all setup happens on web, under Settings → Time entries. Fergus Go simply reflects whatever's been set up and assigned there. This article covers what determines what a field tech sees on their phone, and where to go if something's missing.

What needs to happen on web first

Before a rate is selectable in Fergus Go:

  • The rate itself needs to be created under Settings → Time Entries → Labour rates.

  • A default work type needs to be set for the user under Settings → Users → Employee pay.

  • The rate needs to be explicitly assigned to that user.

If a field tech says they can't see a rate, this is the first place to check.

What controls what shows in the app

Two settings decide what a field tech sees when they log time:

  • Assigned - whether the rate has been given to that person at all.

  • In app - whether that rate is visible for staff to pick themselves, or kept for office/admin use only.

Both need to be true for a rate to appear as an option in Fergus Go. A rate that's assigned but not switched on for In app stays invisible to that person, even though the office can still use it behind the scenes.

Why some field staff don't see a rate picker at all

If someone's only assigned one labour rate - or your company only has one rate in total - Fergus Go applies it automatically and skips the picker entirely. There's nothing to choose, so the screen stays simple. A rate selector only appears once someone has two or more assigned rates with In app switched on.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Cause/ Solution

Field tech can't see a rate at all

Rate isn't assigned to them on web, or In app is turned off for that rate.

No rate picker shows when logging time

They're only assigned one in-app rate - this is expected, not a fault.

Wrong rate applying by default

Check their default rate under Settings → Users → Employee pay.

Rate shows different figures to what's expected

Field staff only ever see rate named, never dollar figures - check the rate's Charge out rate and Cost when pricing on web.
