How does Fernwayer decide which Affiliate gets credit?

FOR AFFILIATES: How credit for a booking is assigned when more than one link is involved.

Most of the time, credit is simple: someone clicks your link, books, and you earn the commission.

It gets more interesting when a traveler has clicked more than one affiliate's link before booking. Here's how Fernwayer decides.

The basic rule: last click wins

Fernwayer uses last-click attribution. If a traveler clicked several general affiliate links before booking, the credit goes to the most recent one clicked before the booking was made.

The priority rule: direct Experience links win

There's one important exception, and it works in your favor when you link well.

A click on a direct Experience-page link always takes priority over a click on a home, country, city, or interest link — regardless of the order they were clicked.

So if a traveler clicks someone else's general link (say, a home page link), then later clicks your direct link to a specific Experience, and books that Experience — you get the credit. The direct Experience link outranks the general one, even though the general link may have been clicked first.

This is why direct Experience links are the strongest links you can use. When you link straight to the Experience you're writing about, you give yourself the best possible claim on the booking.

How it works together

Putting the two rules in order of priority:

  1. A direct Experience-page link wins over any general link, whatever the click order.

  2. If no direct Experience link was clicked, the most recently clicked general link before the booking gets the credit.

The takeaway is simple: link directly to the Experience whenever you can. It's better for your reader, and it's the strongest claim you can make on the commission.
