Guide to Gating Offers: Non-Discounted Promo Codes

What is a Promotion Code?

A Promotion Code is primarily used to gate inventory, meaning that only shoppers with the code can access specific items or offers. It’s often employed to create exclusivity around certain events, offers, or products. Promotion codes are highly effective when you want to:

  • Target VIP audiences or loyalty members.

  • Control access to limited or high-demand inventory.

  • Launch exclusive pre-sales for certain groups.

Benefits of Promotion Codes:

  • Increases exclusivity: Ensures only the intended audience can access the offer.

  • Limits inventory to a select group: Useful for managing limited quantities.

  • Creates urgency: Fosters a sense of scarcity and drives quick purchases.

Example: A special promotion code for VIPs to access premium seats at an exclusive pre-sale event.

Creating a Promotion Code

Set up:

  1. Click on the Codes tab on the left navigation bar within Enterprise.

  2. Select Promotions

  3. Click 'Create New Promotion'

  4. Select Organization and Promotion Owner

  5. Fill in Promotion Name and Description

  6. Click Next

Codes:

  1. Toggle Yes or No for 'Can customers use this code more than once?' and 'Can customers use this code on multiple offers?'

  2. Select how you would like to create your code(s) and click 'Create New Codes'

Generate unique codes for me- This option will randomly generate unique codes. The user will be asked how many codes need to be generated and the system will generate and upload the codes.

Use my own generic code- This option allows the user to upload the codes via a CSV, XLS, or XLSX file. The user can also enter the codes manually without uploading a file.

Add Domains - This option allows the user to upload the domains via a CSV, XLS, or XLSX file. The user can also enter the domains manually without uploading a file. (ex of domains would be .edu or .gov). This option would only allow customers who enter a valid domain to access the inventory on the offer.

Add Emails - This option allows the user to upload the individual emails via a CSV, XLS, or XLSX file. The user can also enter the emails manually without uploading a file. This option would only allow customers who enter a valid email to access the inventory on the offer.

3. Click Next

Associations:

  1. Select which group(s) or offer(s) you would like your promotion codes to be valid for.

  2. Once the group(s) or offer(s) have been selected, click 'Restrict Offer' to make the Promotion Code Restriction live on the offer(s)

  3. Click Finish

Congratulations! You've successfully gated your offer using a promotional code.

Make sure to check the offer to ensure the Promotion Code is active and functioning properly. Once you confirm everything is working how it should, you can share this code only with the desired audience for exclusive access.
