How to turn on Route Optimization
Once unlocked from the Tool Kit, navigate to your Services>Pricing click and select the drop Down 'Routes' to make that service a route service.
Publish your changes
How It Works
Your route services will sit in the calendar, and at the start of the route, your worker will swipe Start Route, this will automatically optimize the route.
Your day will be mapped out with each job & stop.
Workers proceed through each job through the job workflow.
Routes Dashboard
What is it?
The Routes Dashboard is a dedicated page for planning, managing, and tracking routes. A route is a sequence of jobs that a team member completes in order, think of it like a delivery driver's run sheet, but for any service.
Access the Routes Dashboard by clicking the route icon in the left sidebar. It only appears if the company has Route Optimization turned on.
The Dashboard
When you open the Routes page, you'll see two ways to view your routes: Table and Calendar.
Table View
The table has two tabs:
Routes Tab
Shows actual routes on specific dates. Each row displays:
Route name
Assigned team member
Day and date
Recurrence frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)
Scheduled time window
Capacity percentage, how full the route is
Whether customers can book online
Total revenue
Number of subscribers on the route
Number of stops
Current status
A stats bar at the top of the table shows total active routes, completed stops, total revenue, and subscriber percentage.
Recurring Tab
The recurring route tab shows recurring route blueprints, the definitions that automatically generate route instances. For example, a template might say "Run this route every Monday and Wednesday." Each row shows:
Route name
Assigned team member
Schedule and time window
Number of zones covered
Active/inactive status
Calendar View
The calendar shows a full month with route cards on each day. Each card displays the route name, capacity, stop count, and team member.
On the right side, an Unrouted Jobs panel lists jobs that haven't been assigned to any route yet. You can drag a job from this panel and drop it onto a route card to assign it, a confirmation dialog appears before the change is saved.
You can also filter the calendar by team member to focus on one person's routes.
There is also a filter to hide empty routes.
Capacity
Every route shows a capacity percentage indicating how full it is:
Green : Under 61% — plenty of room for more stops
Amber : 61–85% — getting full
Red : Over 85% — nearly or fully booked
Statuses
Status | What it means |
Awaiting Route | A route-type job exists but hasn't been assigned to a route yet |
Routed | The job has been assigned to a route |
Unoptimized | The route exists but the stop order hasn't been calculated yet |
Optimized | The Fieldd has calculated the best stop order and mapped driving directions |
Started | The team member has begun working the route |
In Progress | Some stops have been completed |
Completed | All stops are done |
Creating a Route
Creating a route is a two-step process.
Step 1 — Configure the Route
Click Add Route and fill out the form:
Give it a name
Pick a date (or set up a recurring schedule - see below)
Optionally assign a team member
Set the time window (start and end time)
Enter a starting location
Choose which service zones the route covers
Step 2 — Add Stops
After the route is created, open it to start adding stops. You can add stops in two ways:
From the route detail panel — click Add Stop, then search for existing orders, customers, or addresses. Pick a service for each stop.
From the map view — add stops directly from the map by clicking the Add Stop button in the detail panel while viewing the route on the map.
Recurring Schedules
When creating a route, you can make it recurring with three options:
Daily — runs every X days (e.g., every day, every 2 days)
Weekly — pick specific days of the week (e.g., every Monday and Wednesday)
Monthly — choose specific dates (e.g., the 1st and 15th) or ordinal days (e.g., the first Monday of each month)
The Route Detail Panel
Click on any route (in the table or calendar) to open a detail panel on the right side showing:
A map with all stops plotted and numbered
The stop list in order, with each stop's status
Estimates for total distance, driving time, and work time
Action buttons to optimize, add stops, edit stop order, or remove stops
Editing Stop Order
Click Edit Stops to open a full-screen map where you can manually reorder stops and add new stops:
Click a stop to select it (it turns green)
Click another stop to move the selected one after it
Click the start marker to move a stop to the beginning
Alternatively you can drag and drop the order of items on the side
Save when you're happy with the order
Assigning a Team Member
Click the pencil icon next to the team member name in the table, or use the route detail panel, to assign or change who's working the route.
Creating Jobs for Routes
From the Manual Job Form (One-Time Bookings)
When creating a new job with a Route service type, the Workers section changes to Assignment and offers two choices:
Pick a worker — assign a specific team member (same as before)
Pick a route — search for a route and assign the job to it
These are mutually exclusive — you pick a worker OR a route, not both. When you assign a job to a route, the route's team member automatically handles the job.
When searching for routes, each suggestion shows:
Route name
Next run date and stop count
A warning icon if the worker or date don't match up
Important: The job's date must match the route's date. Only routes running on that specific day will appear in search results.
From the Manual Job Form (Repeat Bookings)
You can also create recurring bookings from the manual job form and assign them to a route at the same time. When setting up a repeat booking for a route service type, a separate Assign to Route section lets you search for and select a recurring route.
Each route suggestion shows:
Route name and stop count
Whether the worker matches (with a warning if not)
Whether the date matches (with a warning if not)
When a recurring booking has a route assigned, Fieldd uses a date matching window (configurable in company settings) to find the nearest appropriate route date for each booking instance. So if a recurring booking falls on a day the route doesn't run, Fieldd will look within the configured window to find the right route date.
From the Booking Calendar
Routes appear as events on the booking calendar alongside regular jobs. You can:
Drag and drop — drag a route to change its date, time, or team member (a confirmation dialog warns that all unfinished jobs will be rescheduled)
Resize — drag the edge of a route event to adjust its time window
Click a route — view details, add stops, and optimize if needed; if already optimized, see the full-screen map with driving directions
From the Requests Panel
In the Routes Dashboard calendar view, the right-side panel shows all jobs not yet on a route. Drag them onto a route card to assign them.
The Job Card
When a job is assigned to a route, the job card shows a Route section with:
The route name
The route date
The assigned team member (inherited from the route)
From the job card you can:
Click the route name — open route details and view the map and all stops
Click the Route button — change or remove the route assignment
Remove from route — required before you can reschedule a job or change its worker
Recurring Bookings
In the repeat settings for a recurring booking, you can assign it to a recurring route:
Search and assign a recurring route — future bookings will automatically be placed on that route
Remove a route — only affects future bookings; existing ones already on the route stay there
When a recurring booking is assigned to a route, Fieldd uses a date matching window (configurable in company settings) to place each booking instance on the nearest appropriate route date. For example, if a recurring booking repeats weekly but the route runs on slightly different days, Fieldd looks within the allowed window to find the right route date for each instance.
The recurring bookings grid shows a Route column so you can see at a glance which recurring bookings are assigned to which routes.
Routes on the Booking Calendar
Routes appear as events on the regular booking calendar (not just the Routes Dashboard), displaying the route name, stop count, and completion progress.
You can interact with them just like other calendar events:
Drag — reschedule the entire route (changes date, time, and worker)
Resize — adjust the time window
Click — view details or manage stops
Delete from tooltip — releases all unfinished jobs from the route (completed jobs are retained)
Online booking with time windows
When a route is marked as Available for Online Booking, customers on the client app can book onto that route. Instead of picking an exact appointment time, they see the route's time window (e.g., 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM). The customer knows their job will be completed somewhere within that window, but the exact arrival time depends on the optimized stop order.
Customer Booking Experience
When customers book what will they see?
Customers will pick a day of the week they want their service, they will not pick a time.
I want to customize the wording from 'Anytime Wednesday' to 'Wednesday'
Settings> Online Scheduling> Style> Text.
Worker App Experience
How does a route job work in the Worker App?
On the day of work first you will click the View button to open up the days work.
Open up view of a job:
Start Route:
Start your day by clicking Start Route.
Swipe through to take you to the first job:
On the job your job workflow will be as usual, prompted to take before & after photos, checklists, being able to message the client etc.
Once you finish the route, the final step will be done, this will close your route.
