1. Click on Settings

Click on Settings

2. Click on States & Taxes

The States & Taxes Shipping tab has many crossovers so it is best to have each page open on different browser tabs so you can toggle back and forth to build your setup.

Click on States & Taxes

3. Turn shipping on or off for each state by choosing "Ship To" or "Prohibited"

If you select the "Ship To" option, customers will be able to place orders shipping to the individual state on your web store or through an allocation. By selecting the "Prohibited" option, customers will NOT be able to place orders if they are shipping to the individual state.

Go through all the states and adjust the settings based on where you have direct shipping licenses or work with your Fulfillment house to determine what states they will ship to.

4. Click in the "Tax%" field and enter the state-level tax amounts

If you are not using ShipCompliant, by entering a tax rate into the third column, it will apply a single or "blender" rate sales tax rate to orders from that state. So you will collect one single rate for the entire state regardless of zip code. It is important to add a rate for your home state, no matter your setup.

Click in the "Tax%" field and enter the state level tax amounts

5. Affix a Shipping Zone to each state

When assigning a shipping zone, you can group multiple states into similar pricing to simplify your rate structure. Coincide these zones to your rates from your fulfillment house or shipping carrier.

6. Choose which states you want to charge tax for freight by selecting "Yes" or "No"

Discuss the fifth column, "Tax Freight?" with a compliance consultant if you feel it may apply to your business.

7. (Optional) Check the box to "Disable ShipCompliant Tax for a state"

Most wineries will leave this unchecked. Discuss this setting with a compliance consultant if you feel it may apply to your business.

(Optional) Check the box to "Disable ShipCompliant Tax for a state"

8. (Optional) Set the specific shipping method available in this state

If you have a need to set a "state-specific shipping method," we can activate this for you upon request. For example, if you only ship 2nd Day Air to Hawaii, enabling this feature can then allow you to select and limit the choice to 2nd Day Air or other specific methods.

Please complete the setup of both the "Settings>States & Taxes" page and the "Settings>Shipping" page before starting to set a shipping method for each state.

9. (Optional) Select your specific shipping method for the state

Check the "Active?" box next to the Shipping Method you want to enable for the state. If you don't want to offer the method, uncheck the box.
