If you’ve seen people racing with ski machines, sleds and sandbags but you’re not sure whether it’s METRIX or HYROX - you’re in the right place.

They’re both full-body fitness events designed to test your engine, strength and grit. But they’re not the same.

Let’s break it down.

HYROX

The global fitness race

HYROX is a fixed-format fitness competition raced all over the world. It’s the same structure at every event - and every participant, no matter their ability, completes the same race. It’s long, tough, and rewards consistency over intensity.

The HYROX Format

You complete eight rounds of the following sequence:

  1. Run 1km

  2. Ski Ergometer – 1,000m

  3. Run 1km

  4. Sled Push – weighted sled pushed over 50m

  5. Run 1km

  6. Sled Pull – pull a weighted sled over 50m

  7. Run 1km

  8. Burpee Broad Jumps – 80m

  9. Run 1km

  10. Row Ergometer – 1,000m

  11. Run 1km

  12. Farmers Carry – carry two kettlebells for 200m

  13. Run 1km

  14. Sandbag Lunges – 100m

  15. Run 1km

  16. Wall Balls – 100 reps

The Experience

It’s long. It’s repetitive. It rewards those with solid pacing, a big aerobic engine and mental toughness. It’s not about who can go fastest off the line - it’s about who can hold on the longest.

Who It’s For

Anyone who loves a challenge and wants to train toward a specific structure
People who enjoy competing and want to track progress over time.

You can race solo, as a pair, or as a four person relay.

METRIX

The London-founded hybrid competition

METRIX is a newer format created in London, expanding over the world. It’s built around similar machines and movement patterns to HYROX, but the format is shorter, faster and often more fun to do with mates.

The METRIX Format

The exact format is 5 stations, each with a 10 minute exercise window, points are based on performance, with cumulative scores deciding the winner.

You often race in pairs, swapping every 10/20 calories, reps or metres depending on the station.

The Experience

It is fast, fiery and full of atmosphere. Loud music, team energy and a crowd cheering you on. The distances are shorter than HYROX, so the pace is higher - but it still absolutely empties the tank.

Who It’s For

  • First timers who want to try functional racing without committing to a ninety minute grind

  • Friends who love training together

  • Anyone who wants to test themselves and have a good time doing it
