✅ Syncing Garmin Data to Apple Health (HealthKit)
If you're seeing a mismatch in your step count or active calories between Garmin and Edge, it's likely because Edge reads this data from Apple Health (HealthKit), and Garmin doesn’t sync step data to Apple Health by default.
Here’s how to fix that in a few quick steps.
🔁 Step 1: Download the "Garmin Connect" App
If you haven’t already, download the Garmin Connect app from the App Store:
⚙️ Step 2: Enable Apple Health Integration
Open the Garmin Connect app on your iPhone.
Tap More (three-dot icon or hamburger menu) in the bottom right.
Scroll down and tap Settings.
Tap Connected Apps.
Tap Health (Apple Health).
Toggle "Connect" to enable syncing.
You’ll be taken to the Apple Health permissions screen. Here, make sure you allow Garmin Connect to write and read the following data:
✅ Steps
✅ Active Energy (Calories)
✅ Workouts (optional, but helpful)
✅ Heart Rate (optional, if you want deeper insights in the future)
💡Important: You must enable “Write to Health” for Garmin to push step and calorie data to Apple Health.
🔄 Step 3: Force a Sync (Optional)
Sometimes Garmin doesn't sync immediately. To make sure your latest data is synced:
Open the Garmin Connect app.
Pull down on the main dashboard to manually refresh.
Open the Apple Health app → check Steps or Active Energy under Browse → Activity to confirm Garmin is pushing data in.
🧠 How Edge Uses This Data
Edge reads your step count and active calories from the Apple Health app, not directly from Garmin. If Garmin isn’t pushing data into Health properly, you’ll see a mismatch. Once the sync is set up, Edge will reflect your Garmin data accurately.
🙋♀️ Still Not Working?
Here are a few things to check:
Garmin Connect has Health permissions enabled.
Garmin Connect is open and running in the background regularly.
You're using the same iPhone to access both Garmin Connect and Apple Health.
Data appears in the Apple Health app (confirm Garmin is listed as a source under Steps or Active Energy).
