Finrep MCP

Connect AI assistants to Fina, Finrep's research and drafting agent, through MCP.

Finrep is the platform for financial reporting. The Finrep MCP server brings Fina, our research and drafting agent, into the AI assistant you already use, so you can research EDGAR filings alongside the accounting standards and get cited, source-grounded answers without leaving the chat.

Every answer is also a real Fina chat in your Finrep workspace. You can open it, click through the sources, and keep working on it there.

What you can do with it

Ask in plain language, the way you would ask a colleague. Four things Fina does that a general assistant cannot:

  • Cited technical accounting. "How should a company account for a contract modification that adds services below their standalone selling price under ASC 606?"

  • SEC comment-letter intelligence. "What has the SEC pushed back on in recent comment letters about non-GAAP measures?"

  • Peer benchmarking, with the actual language. "How do the largest US regional banks word their interest-rate-risk disclosure in their latest 10-Ks? Show me the actual language."

  • Grounded drafting. "Draft a revenue recognition footnote for a company with subscription and usage-based revenue, grounded in how real public companies disclose it."

Drafts come back as a cited Finrep artifact with a link to open it. Review and finalise it in Finrep before anything goes into a filing.

Setup

Prerequisites. A Finrep account, and a client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with sign-in.

Claude, personal plans

Free, Pro and Max. The steps are the same on the web and in the desktop app.

  1. Open Claude and go to Customize > Connectors.

  2. Search for Finrep and select Connect.

  3. Sign in to Finrep in the window that opens and authorise the connection.

Fina's tools appear in your conversations once you are connected, and run as you: your organization, your configured peers, and your own uploaded documents. You can turn the connector on or off for a single conversation from the + menu under Connectors.

Claude, Team and Enterprise plans

An admin enables Finrep for the organization once, from Organization settings > Connectors. Each person then connects their own Finrep account:

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors.

  2. Search for Finrep and select Connect.

  3. Sign in to Finrep in the window that opens and authorise the connection.

If you see Request instead of Connect, you do not have permission to enable connectors yourself. Selecting it sends Finrep to your admins for approval, and Claude tells you the outcome next time you open the directory.

ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT and go to Plugins.

  2. Search for Finrep, select it and install it.

  3. Sign in to Finrep in the window that opens and select Continue to ChatGPT.

In a chat, type @Finrep to use it.

Available tools

Your assistant picks the right tool, so you never call these by name.

Troubleshooting

It will not connect

Check the URL is exactly https://mcp.finrep.ai/mcp if you added it manually, and complete sign-in in the window that opens rather than in the chat.

You see "Request" instead of "Connect"

On Claude Team plans, members without permission to enable connectors see a Request button. Selecting it sends Finrep to your organization's admins, who can enable it from Organization settings > Connectors. Claude shows you the outcome the next time you open the connectors directory.

You cannot find Finrep in the connector list

On Team and Enterprise plans an admin may need to enable it for your organization first. You can also add it manually from Customize > Connectors with Add custom connector and the URL https://mcp.finrep.ai/mcp.

Your company network or device management is blocking it

If your organization manages your device or network, your IT administrator may block connections to external MCP servers. If the connector will not reach us from a managed environment, ask your IT team to allow mcp.finrep.ai.

Your client will not add it

The connector needs a client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with sign-in. A client without that support fails at the connect step.

It looks stuck

A multi-company benchmark genuinely takes 15 to 20 minutes, and Fina reports what it is doing while it works, filing by filing and company by company. If steps are still coming back, it is working, and you do not need to ask again or refresh anything.

Your follow-up did not land

One question runs at a time in a given chat, so a follow-up sent while a run is still going will compete with it. Wait for the first answer, then ask again.

Fina says the trial has ended

Restore access from your Finrep plan settings. Your chats and documents in Finrep are preserved.

You are out of questions today

Trial accounts get 10 Fina questions a day through the connector, resetting at midnight in your local time. Paid accounts are uncapped.

A document you mentioned is not found

Only documents that have finished processing in Finrep can be used, so check it shows as complete in your document library.

Anything else, email support@finrep.ai.

FAQ

How long does a question take?

Most finish in under two minutes. A multi-company benchmark can run 15 to 20 minutes, and Fina reports its progress while it works. One question runs at a time in a given chat.

Can I continue work I started in Finrep?

Yes. Anything you have done in Fina is available through the connector, whether you started it there or in the Finrep platform. Name it and keep going, for example "Continue my goodwill impairment analysis for Acme", and the documents, sources and drafts come with it, so you do not rebuild context. You can also ask what you were working on, and Fina will list your recent chats and drafts.

Can Fina use my own documents?

Yes, for documents you have uploaded to Finrep. Say what it is, for example "my segment footnote draft" or "the MSA I uploaded", and you do not need to attach it again; only documents that have finished processing can be used. Files you attach in your AI client's conversation do not cross the connector. Your client may read such a file and include extracted passages in the question it sends, so that text reaches Fina as part of the question, but the file itself does not. Upload it to Finrep if you want Fina to work from the whole document.

Are there usage limits?

Trial accounts get 10 Fina questions a day through the connector, resetting at midnight in your local time, and paid accounts have no daily cap. If your trial has ended, Fina tools stop working and your assistant will tell you so; your chats and documents in Finrep are preserved, and you can restore access from your Finrep plan settings.

Which AI clients does this work with?

Claude and ChatGPT, plus any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in. For other clients, use https://mcp.finrep.ai/mcp as the server URL and follow your client's own instructions for adding a remote MCP server.

What data leaves Finrep?

Your own Finrep data, fetched with your credentials, and only in response to something you asked. That is: the question and Fina's answer with its citation links; Fina's progress steps while a longer run is in flight; your Finrep account email; your remaining daily question allowance and, where relevant, your trial or billing status; the titles and ids of your Fina chats, and the contents of one when you open it; the titles, status and upload dates of your uploaded documents; the titles of your artifacts, with a text preview for prose ones; and citation details such as company, form type and fiscal year. Files themselves never cross. Your AI client's provider handles all of this under its own privacy policy, Finrep sends nothing else, and Fina reads only what your Finrep account is already allowed to read.

Who else receives it. Finrep's service providers process it only as needed to run the service, as listed in the Finrep privacy policy; the connector adds none. Finrep does not sell your data and does not use your content to train generalized AI models.

What Finrep keeps. Your questions and Fina's answers are saved as Fina chats in your own workspace and kept under section 10 (Data Retention) of the Finrep privacy policy. Connector access records (sign-ins, which tools were called, error reports) are kept only as long as needed to run and secure the service, and do not include the text of your questions.

Your controls. The two tools that add to your workspace are marked as write actions, so your AI client can ask you to confirm before they run. You can disconnect at any time from your AI client's connector or plugin settings, and ask us to delete your data at privacy@finrep.ai. Full detail is in the Finrep privacy policy.

For IT and security teams

If you are deciding whether to allow this connector across your organization:

  • Every user signs in as themselves, over OAuth. Nothing is shared between users.

  • It runs as that user and sees only what they already see. It inherits their Finrep permissions exactly, so it cannot reach another user's chats, documents or artifacts.

  • Two of the ten tools write, into that user's own workspace only. They add a chat or a turn. Nothing is deleted or overwritten.

  • Files attached in the AI client never cross the connector. The client may include extracted passages in the question it sends, so that text reaches Finrep as part of the query; the file does not. Only documents already in the user's Finrep library can be attached to a run.

  • The connector does not read your AI client. No access to its memory, chat history, summaries or files. The tools named for listing and opening chats read Finrep chats.

  • On Claude Team and Enterprise, you enable it once from Organization settings > Connectors, after which each person connects their own Finrep account. If your network or device management blocks external MCP servers, allow mcp.finrep.ai.

The exact data that crosses is listed under "What data leaves Finrep" above, governed by the Finrep privacy policy.
