How to filter columns in Flatly

Step 1: Find All Available Columns

(click cancel to exit the Include Only Columns popup if this is your first job setup.)

First, run your job once with the default "All Columns" selected and then inspect the first row (which is a set of column headings if your file is an XLSX file or a Google Sheet) of your flat file (CSV).

Important: You can use any desktop-based text file viewer (Notepad for example) or a browser based app like https://www.csvexplorer.com/ to examine your raw CSV if it is too large for a spreadsheet app to read (you only need to read the first row!)

Make note of all the available column headings and decide which ones you want to keep, and in which order.

Return to Flatly.

Step 2: Open Advanced Settings --> Include Only Columns

Return to the Include Only Columns setting in Flatly and (carefully!) paste in the column names (example: 'contact_name') you wish to keep.

Column ordering is supported!

Miscellaneous Notes:

  • Column ordering is supported!

  • Column names are case sensitive and must match exactly the column names as shown in your first flat file output.

  • Column names may not contain illegal characters like: : / * (

  • The total set of column names outputted by data source apps can change over time (some may be added based on business activity inside your data source app), so it's best to run an All Columns job to determine what columns are available to you at any given time.
