Our team recently conducted a thorough investigation into customer inquiries about battery information within our app for Longlife Devices. The findings highlighted issues with traditional voltage-based measurements, leading us to devise a solution for more precise and user-friendly battery status updates.
Challenges with Voltage-Based Measurements:
Customers expressed concerns about relying on displayed battery percentages derived from reported voltages. This method proved inconsistent, as the chemistry of these batteries could introduce inaccuracies, especially when influenced by external factors such as weather conditions.
An example illustrating this problem was when customers received low battery warnings shortly after installing fresh batteries. The voltage-based system incorrectly showed a significant drop in battery percentage, causing unnecessary concern about battery performance.
The Solution - Removing Battery Percentage and Introducing Battery Flags:
In response to these challenges, our dedicated development team devised an approach involving the removal of battery percentages and the introduction of battery flags.
Instead of relying solely on voltage, Longlife Devices now use battery flags to convey battery condition. This system provides users with clear and intuitive information, eliminating confusion caused by inaccurate percentage readings.
We have updated the battery icons, and here is the corresponding information for each:
With these enhancements, we aim to extend the lifespan of batteries, minimising the need for frequent replacements.
How the Battery Flags work:
Our devices feature advanced technology that autonomously detects different battery chemistries and discharge profiles. By calculating the average maximum voltage over a 3-day period, our system ensures a more accurate representation of the battery's actual condition.
