Students registered for your class on the Flipd mobile app will receive a notification at the beginning of class to “Flip Off” their phones for the duration of the lecture. Their phones will then remain accessible in case of emergency messages or calls, however, the students must remain Flipd Off for the length of the lecture in order to be tracked as successfully participating.

For example, if a student Flipd Off at the beginning of your hour-long class but then decided to use his phone 15 minutes before the end of class, his data would appear on your dashboard that he stayed Flipd Off for 45 minutes, or 75% of the class that day. Flipd, in other words, does not outright prevent smartphone use during class, it discourages smartphone use at the source, and helps students learn about and practice disconnecting.
