1. Login and setup
Download Flipd from the App Store or Google Play. Once installed on your phone, open Flipd and login by selecting CLASS. You'll be asked to add your school email address, and if you're new to Flipd we'll also ask for your full name and an alternate email address. Because Flipd doesn't ask for a password, you'll be required to follow a login link sent to your email address.
If you have trouble logging in, select Productivity and login by Facebook or Google alternatively. Read this FAQ article to find out more.
2. Join a new class
Once logged in, scroll down to My Groups and tap View. From this screen tap SEARCH and type the 5-digit class code provided by your professor into the search bar to find your class.
When you see your class listed, tap it to join. Once joined, you will see a pop-up that says you've successfully joined the class.
TIP: Joining a class requires WiFi or good network connection and can take a second to successfully load if the connection is weak.
Once you've joined your class successfully, you'll be able to see this new class listed in your Classes. You can also view the details of the class by tapping on the icon in the top right corner.
3. How to Flip Off for class
When you get to class, open Flipd and tap Class on the home screen when it says Join Now. You won't be able to begin your Flipd session until 5 minutes before class begins or during class when it's active.
When class is about to begin in five minutes or less, or if it has already started, tap the Class option, then tap BEGIN. Right away, the Flipd lock screen will appear and begin counting down the session like below.
TIP: If your professor is using Flipd for attendance, you must also tap Attendance or Check In to submit your attendance code.
4. How to Check-in for Attendance
If your professor is using Flipd Attendance, Flip Off and then tap Check In or Attendance to enter your class code. You'll need to submit the correct attendance code of the day to confirm your attendance. You can check in at any point during the class to be marked as present.
TIP: If you have poor internet at the time of check in, you may need to try again later.
5. How to stay Flipd Off for Class
Staying Flipd Off for the lecture means that you stayed in the Flipd lock screen until class time runs out. You can still lock your phone and set it aside, but if you open your phone and try to leave Flipd, you'll get a notification to remind you that you have 10 seconds to return.
TIP: If you don't come back to Flipd within 10 seconds, the timer will expire. You can always start it again, but every minute you spend outside of Flipd will be measured in your Flipd Stats.
Pro Tip and Best Practices
To stay Flipd Off for class, it's suggested to Flip Off your phone and set your phone aside until class is over. Each time you open your screen, check your notifications, or leave Flipd during the class, you run the risk of ending the Flipd session.
Flipd is going to help you develop more intentional phone-use, and this skill will guide you in other important activities — like studying, writing, working, and even spending time with friends. Read about how you can also use Flipd outside of class to stay focused while you study.
