Add a repeating rule to an existing budget

Prior to the release of budgets that can repeat indefinitely, if a budget were created, it wouldn't have a rule attached and at a maximum would display until the end of the cash flow.

With the introduction of continuous budgets, it's now possible for each budget to have a rule that can then be adjusted as edits are required.

But how do you add a new rule to an existing budget that has no rule?

Before we add a rule, it's important to note that adding a rule to an existing budget will overwrite the existing budget dates and values. Where a budget has many individual edits, it may be best not to add a rule as those individual edits will be overwritten.

Step 1

Click into the budget you want to edit, in the same way as you usually would. In the edit modal, you'll see a new option called Edit repeat schedule.

Step 2

Clicking Edit repeat schedule will bring up the options for editing a rule, or in this case adding a rule

Step 3

Add in the details for the amount and repeating schedule, choosing Never will ensure that this value continues in the cash flow indefinitely (or until a specific end date is added)

Step 4

Preview the changes to make sure you're happy, and once saved this rule will be applied to the budget and overwrite the values and dates that were there before
