Receive an email if spend is getting too high

Get an automatic email when your Google Ads spend is close to last month

This script helps you keep control of your Google Ads costs when you manage one or more accounts. It compares what you have spent so far this month with what you spent in the previous month. When your current spend comes close to last month’s total, you receive an email alert.

You decide how “close” is defined by setting a budget threshold. A simple rule of thumb is to set this to about twice your average daily budget. When your current month’s spend is within that threshold of last month, the script sends an email to the recipients you choose.

The email includes:

  • The name of the Google Ads account

  • How much you have spent so far this month

  • How much you spent in the previous month

  • A short explanation that the current month is almost higher than last month

This gives you a clear early warning that spend is ramping up, so you can:

  • Check if the increase is intentional, for example due to seasonality or a campaign push

  • Quickly pause or adjust campaigns if needed

  • Avoid unpleasant surprises on your invoice

You only need to set two things before using this script: your threshold amount and the email addresses that should receive the alert. After that, you can schedule it in Google Ads so it runs automatically at your preferred frequency.
