It's crucial to be aware of the lifespan and functionality of your home's safety devices, particularly carbon monoxide and smoke sensors. These devices are essential for your household's security and safety, but they don't last forever. Here's what you need to know if you're encountering issues with these sensors.

Identifying Expired Sensors

  1. Chirping and Flashing Lights: If you've replaced the batteries in your carbon monoxide or smoke sensor, but it continues to chirp and a yellow light is flashing, this is a likely indication that your sensor has expired.

  2. Lifespan of Sensors:

    • Carbon Monoxide Sensors: These have a lifespan of approximately 5 years.

    • Smoke Sensors: These typically last for about 10 years.

  3. Look for a Sticker: Most sensors will have a sticker indicating either the expiration date or the year of manufacture. To determine if your sensor has expired, locate this sticker and count the years from the manufacturing date based on the expected lifespan.

What to Do with Expired Sensors

  1. Non-Coverage under Extended Warranty: It's important to note that expired smoke and carbon monoxide sensors are not covered under our Extended Warranty.

  2. Replacement at Standard Rates: Since these sensors have a finite lifespan, they will need to be replaced at standard rates once they expire.

  3. Contacting Fluent Home: Given the critical role these sensors play in your home's safety, please don't delay in addressing this issue. If your sensor has expired, contact us immediately. One of our representatives will assist you in ordering a new sensor.
