Setting Up Data Queries for Slides

Each slide in Fluent requires a data query to generate insights, charts, and metrics. You can create a new query from scratch or import an existing one. After selecting metrics and settings, save the query and regenerate the slide to apply the data.

Updated this week

Step 1: Select the Slide you Want

  1. Select the content slide you want to configure.

  2. Navigate to the 'Data Query' panel on the right hand side of the page.

Step 2: Choose How to Add a Data Query

You can add a data query in one of two ways:

  • Create a New Data Query from Scratch

  • Import an Existing Data Query

This is required for every content slide to enable Fluent to generate insights, metric cards, and charts.

Step 3: Create a New Data Query From Scratch

  1. Click + Data Query.

  2. Select the Ad Platform you want to pull data from.

  3. Choose a variant.

    • Variants represent how Ad Platforms aggregate, structure, or filter data.

    • Examples: Top Line Performance (includes ~10 core metrics), or variants with broader metric sets and richer breakdowns.

  4. Once you’ve selected a variant, choose:

    • The metrics you want to include

    • The breakdowns

    • Any filters

    • Any comparisons (e.g., WoW, MoM, YoY)

  5. Optionally give your query a title so it’s easy to recognise later.

  6. If required, override the deck-level timeframe and select a custom time period (e.g., bi-weekly, YTD).

  7. Click Done in the top right to confirm your configuration.

  8. Click Save to store the data query in Fluent.

Step 4: Import an Existing Data Query

  1. Click Import Data Query.

  2. Choose from your previously created queries - these may come from:

    • Other Slides Reports

    • Docs Reports

    • Other content slides

  3. This allows you to reuse well-structured, universal queries instantly (e.g., Top Line Metrics or commonly repeated performance queries).

  4. No additional configuration is required once imported (Unless there are specific changes you want to make to the base query).

  5. Click Save.

Step 5: Apply Your Data Query to the Slide

  1. After adding or importing the query, ensure all desired queries are listed in the Slide Data panel.

  2. Click Save to finalise your selections.

  3. You will not be prompted to regenerate the slide.

  4. Fluent will refresh the slide’s commentary, metrics, and charts based on the selected data queries.
