If you read this article is because you want to know more about our data retention policy.

General information

The maximum Data Retention period that will apply to all FollowAnalytics customers is 18 months (540 days).

➡️ This duration can be reduced upon Customer's request free of charge, according to local regulations or specific company policies. Please contact your CSM if you need to reduce this period.

An increase of this Retention period is technically feasible but may be subjected to additional fees as it depends on the number of Monthly Active Users and how many months needs to be added.

When is my data removed?

The worker that removes the data from FollowAnalytics databases is scheduled to run on the 3rd of each month. Hence the deletion occurs on a monthly basis.

Can I back-up my data?

Deleted data can we collected upon customer request 30 days after the deletion from FollowAnalytics databases (scheduled on the 3rd of each month).

The data will progressively be exported in a FollowAnalytics S3 bucket (AWS). The format will follow the incremental exports of our automated exporters option.

If the data is not collected within this period, there will be no way to recover it.

➡️ Please contact your CSM if you intend to back-up the data older than your Data Retention period.

Other question you may have :

➡️ Will I be able to filter or target my audience based on data older than the data retention period ?

  • Data will progressively be erased from the FollowAnalytics databases

  • Devices that have not been active for the past 540 days will disappear from FollowAnalytics Databases, and hence, from your reachable audience.

  • Devices that remained active over the past 540 days will remain in the audience, but behavioral analytics (ie: time spent, number of sessions, screen viewed, button clicked) older than the allowed retention period will not be usable from the FollowAnalytics interface

➡️ What will happen if I try to display data older than the Retention period in the FollowAnalytics interface ?

  • Dashboards displaying aggregated data will remain available in the FollowAnalytics interface, but fields related to non aggregated data will remain empty. More specifically:
    - Usage: number of unique active devices, new active devices
    - Events: related number of devices,
    - Crash: details for a specific crash will not be available
    - Campaign: Global stats (number of push sent, push opened, in-app displayed, button clicked) will remain available but dashboards displaying detailed stats over a custom period will not be displayed.

➡️ Will I have different Data Retention periods depending on my data types?

  • No, this setting is global by default and applies to all data types collected by FollowAnalytics

  • An exemption can be made upon customer request only for location-type data, allowing you to have a custom retention period that applies only to Location logs. Please note that this period cannot exceed 18 months.

Specific to Salesforce Marketing Cloud users

➡️ How will it impact the data exported in my Data Extensions?

  • Records that have not been updated since the allowed Retention period will simply cease to exist. The main impact will be a decrease of your Usage / Custom / Campaigns Data Extension over time as your records are progressively erased from FollowAnalytics database.

Specific to Salesforce SalesCloud users

➡️ How will it impact the data exported in my Custom objects?

  • Records that have not been updated since the allowed Retention period will simply cease to exist. The main impact will be that your records will decrease in your Custom Objects, as your data is progressively erased from FollowAnalytics database.
